Desi CEOs pushing teams to work on weekends and call it as a Hackathon🥲
“Babe, sorry I couldn’t come to our date, had a hackathon”

Also have things like this in my current Co. (not Zomato), but folks who participate are compensated for the overtime, and there are actual prizes as well (basically not free labour by any means), so it is great if done the right way
Overall quite fun to have that hackathon mode jolt every once in a while :)
Are people creating something different from day-to-day work? If not, those prizes/overtime must be categorised under cheap labour only.

No point of working on Weekends or making someone work on weekends. You should see how people from other countries enjoy their life on weekends and celebrate their vacations. And here are people like us, who celebrate work on weekends.
This shouldn't be normalised at any cost. These founders need to understand that. Even if you compensate, that's not more than the health being destroyed.

Aren't Zepto employees made to work on weekends anyway? I've heard this on a lot of social media.

Well as long as the "hackathon" is not mandatory and people who don't participate have no repercussions, I don't mind anyone doing this. There are some workaholic people who get a high dive through an unrealistic amount of work in a short timeframe. Let them burn out faster, the rest of the folks can take a break.
