Switch From Tech Lead Frontend dev to Pm Role
Hi guys, I am a senior frontend dev (lead) with 8 years of experience. Just have a BCA degree from 3 tier college. After years of staring at screen constantly for good 10+hrs, i want to make a move to Non Tech role like PM or Engg Manager Role. Help with what all options do I have to make a switch- 1- MBA from Normal xyz college will give a low yield 2- MBA from Ivy league will take time to crack and complete. 3- PMP course just for the sake of it 4- Pmp course from ISB or Keylogg to actually learn it Currently 33 age, ctc 36lpa fixed. Also, will I be able to get similiar ctc ?

While everyone else can tell you more about the ways to reach it, below are my two cents on this -
I strongly believe developers will be more and more valued in future. Devs are inherently great product managers but coding is way more important.
A few days ago, salaries at Google/Meta got leaked and the highest earners were developers. I still feel that one shouldn’t leave their touch with coding.

Not really, I haven't ever met an engineering manager who has PMP certification. It could definitely be helpful and some EMs would have it but I think it might not be required.
You might be able figure out an alternative path to engineering management at your current employer too by talking to your manager. Talk about why you want to switch to this role and share good reasons (apart from just digital detoxification) and ask for help figuring out the way forward.

Isn’t this possible to move to this role in the current company? I am in same path. Calls are rare. May be due to market conditions.
Few questions
1. How much do you understand PM role? What do you like about it?
2. Is there PM opening in your team? Intra team transition is the easiest option as you already have product /customer context. External companies will want experience
3. Ctc can take a hit as you would need time to learn PM skills. So expect that.
Well, i will have to look outside the current startup. Current one does not have any requirement.
