Ask your manager what it takes to go to the next level, or how you should do it.

+1, it is both your and your manager’s responsibility to curate a sustainable path for your promotion. Have more frequent 1-1s to discuss this path and identify what is stopping the promotion. 
    
 Good companies also have a chart which highlights the key responsibilities that an individual should already be at to get promoted. Use that to identify your strengths and weaknesses and work with your manager around it.

1st issue:

It has been almost 2 years since I joined a company as a fresher. Got the increment twice but still have the same designation.

Planning to switch after the completion of 2 years, will it be a hit point that I worked in a company on the same designation for 2 years??

Should I ask my manager or head to think about changing it?


2nd issue:

I do financial+ market research, data analysis, and working on a product that is yet to launch (I know this product more that anyone, not a developer but did robust improvements in it, gave several solutions for it, can say that I'm unsung Product Analyst here).

Based upon the above task, what should be my designation?

Like I have heard people work on the role of Product manager, Projet manager, solutions architect, operations manager. No offense though but all I see them is doing either meetings or speaking mumbo jumbo to clients. 
Like what value do they add???
Just curious as for the first time I will be joining a company with ppl having such tags so wanted to know for which takes can I seek their help.

Hi all

I am currently working as a business analyst for about 6 months now. Earlier was in a back end development team but was underperforming as could not really figure out what to do. I don’t like coding. The current role suits me but I don’t know if it has a good future.

Current role - Analyse old product (old code) (understand the complete functionality)
Suggest enhancements if asked for by the client.
Give demos to on-site people/developers
Test the modernised version of the product (started very recently. Called “functional testing”)

Can I switch to a different company with a good jump in pay in future? I feel like the work I do is not really considered worthy and hence there is no growth in this field. 

Please suggest how to move forward. Would like to work for another year or two and then go for an MBA abroad.

Future seems bleak

I joined as fresher almost 2y ago. I am pretty much skilled and certified in my technology. Is it the right time for me to switch? My lead tells me to work for atleast 1 more year and complete atleast 3 years in my first company. What should I do?

Hey, so to introduce myself. I recently graduated from a new IIM and got into a product manager role at a bank where I have the responsibility of launching a new product. I always thought that I would end up in a sales role and did my internship as a market research intern as well. Now, I have no idea how to proceed with my current role. I have no tech background with a bachelor's in science and MBA in marketing & strategy. 

Would like to know if I should stay in this role(tbh I like the tasks) or should I change to sales because a fresher with no tech background would always be at a disadvantage 
And if I choose to stay, how do I go on from here? What skills/certifications/steps should I take.

Need your suggestions, I have a total 7 years of experience and recently switched to one of the organization and this is my 3Rd switch, It has been 3 months no learning scope here and in future roadmap also I couldn't see anything much for my tech stack , and current project is too much of Micromagemet, though of switching to other company, as I switched 3 months back can try other switch now? Its good idea any impact on my career? Please suggest

I am 2019 CSE graduate. I used to work in some startup in Bengaluru but during covid when I was home I switched jobs and choose a permanent work from home. The pay was double what I was getting in Bengaluru and I thought Its better to be near parents and work. When I left my job first job I was a Senior SDE already but I switched to this job for a SE role thinking will get promoted later. Since then its been 2 years and I have not got promoted. Manager cancels all the One-One meetings just 10 mins before the call. I asked him last time and he said he is going to recommend me in the next cycle (perhaps next april). But now he will have a new manager under whom we will work tldr; manager is changing. I feel very stuck and regret my past decisions. I am happy with the CTC but its just that I am turning around 5 years of experience but still an SDE.

I have worked countelss nights and weekends to deliver on time and cancelled plans many times. Is it a good time to look elsewhere?

How to get promoted in the same company?

I joined this startup recently as a solo product designer (this is my first fte role) and i’m being payed 14lpa (12 base+2 bonus) now although the people here really like my work but I personally don’t feel like i’m learning anything new to become a better product designer. I always feel the lack of having a senior PD. 
How much time should i spend in this startup so that when I switch jobs i can get a decent hike as well.

Hello Everyone, 

I am a 2018 BTech (NIT) pass out and  2022 IIM pass out with a total of 2.2 years of Workex (1.2 yrs post-MBA) and currently working as an Associate Product Manager. I am not really enjoying my role and I feel Product Management is not suitable for me because of multiple reasons some of them being,


1. I am doing issue resolutions rather than problem-solving which I love to do.

2. I am not very much interested in driving technical discussions or solving technical challenges in the process of Product Development which is the case in my current role. 

3. I want to be part of a Business role where I can leverage the knowledge I have gained during my MBA and work on some problem statements related to the core businesses of the company. 

4. There is no skin in the game of a PM compared to Devs, QAs, and Designers. As a PM I feel I am just delegating, prioritizing, and following up with the requirements. Most of my learnings are around managerial aspects and not business knowledge. 

5. I want to be a part of business roles where I can go deeper into problems and come up with my recommendations/thoughts on them. 

I am looking for new roles where Strategy, Analysis and Core Business Problem solving are involved. I am really not sure what kind of roles are these. 

Please help me with the roles I can explore and how to approach the job search for such kinds of roles.

Systems Engineer

I applied for the opening at JPL (Jio Pvt Ltd) in June of last year. Received the interview call on 4th July and concluded the entire process with the final HR round on 17th August (already painfully slow).

This was followed by a period of complete silence from the HR's end, which finally broke on 30th September (after probably 30+ follow-ups) when they gave me a verbal offer and gave me confidence for the final offer release within a few days.

Well, the final offer came on 27th December 2023, close to 3 months after the verbal offer (again, after probably 40+ follow-ups). Joined on 16th January 2024 (due to some emergency), and was treated to a GREAT campus in Navi Mumbai. --And this is probably where everything good with JPL ends.

After spending 2 days, I understand that things are not what I expected from any Product organisation, and that I made the wrong decision. 

Gave myself 30 days to ensure the feelings were backed by more experiences, and I'm not acting impulsively. Day 31, I started interviewing with other organisations, and fortunately was able to get in touch with the HR from another organisation that I rejected for Jio, and they were kind enough to resend the offer letter.

Dropped the bomb on 8th March 2024, startling everyone because people usually don't like leaving their comfortable lives at Jio. My L1 and L2 aligned on a 14 days notice period, but the "smartasses" in the HR department thought its a great idea for me to serve the entire notice period of 60 days, and thus I'm stuck here till 6th May 2024.

I was looking at the hierarchy of grades within my current company and their associated definitions. While reading those, I realised that the work I am doing is what is expected from a grade 4 level above my own.

I am grateful for the opportunities. Also, I am in the present company only to gain experience, so no grudges whatsoever. But soon I will need to focus on my financial growth as well, thus I see a switch is on the horizon.

In my current company, I am leading and managing a small team apart from my own work, but my grade doesn't reflect that, and I don't think it ever will just in a matter of few months. So when I switch, how do I make sure that my work is the deciding factor for my next position and compensation, and not this company's grade or my YOE?

Hey folks, so I am a 2022 graduate and I'll try to make this short as much as possible:

* I was giving interview at a company for backend dev
* Over the period got promoted from MTS to SMTS with CTC correction from 12.8 to 14.74 at my current company
* Last Friday did the cultural fitment round
* After following up got a call from HR saying they'll update me by this weekend
* However I updated her with the information regarding role change and CTC correction
* Now she asked what'll be your expectations
   * First, she asked whether I could shift with the same CTC, but I was hesitant, she took it as no.
   * I asked what is your range? She said there is no range
   * I told her as per market standard, she said I'll take 30% to herself as of now

So I need help here: 

* what can I tell her? Or should I tell her something before the weekend or not?
* Should I ask her if it'll be senior role as I am a SMTS now?

Also, this is the current salary  range as per Glassdoor of this company:

* Sr. backend: 25
* SDE: 15 + 6

Additional info for my current company:

*  My manager said that my base will be matched with SMTS in April which is 18-24
* Also heard the news that the company will not give appraisal to anyone in April

Got promoted during an interview, what to expect as CTC?

Would like to know about learning at Thoughtworks and the company in general. They had layoffs last year and don't seem to be performing great financially based on TrueUp.

Graduated in 2021 have 2 yoe working in a b2b unicorn as sde-1, earning 20lpa fixed no esops. I made one switch last year. But now I realised I was learning more in my previous product company. Here most of the work is boring like writing repeated sql queries minor bug fixes and very little coding. 

Is 20lpa low as per industry standards for 2 yoe in bengaluru ?
