WFH vs WFO
Now why everyone is talking about benefits of working from office? I saw post from Sunil Shetty on linkedin. My take is, when pandemic hit companies asked employees to WFH to keep wheel rolling. Now we know WFH can give greater control over personal and professional life(at least for me) we don’t want to go back to office. In my opinion corporate want us to work from office cause, - they can control our time, 9hrs in ofc, you are getting paid for time not skills. - they want to show who is the boss here. - Learning is key reason for WFO, bullshit, we have a lot of learning portals and traffic time can be used to learn but it is never a intention. What you guys think?

Last year and was wfh first few months, it was a bit difficult to connect with other team members just with online first interaction, and since it being my first job, I really didnt know how to navigate the dynamics between the team , since wfo started, it has been much much better and I have a better understanding how to navigate and talk to my colleagues and made a few friends too. :)

Well I'm all for permanent wfh but Indian HRs have a problem. In my org people in other geographies have wfh options but Indian employees do not have this "facility"

HRs are anyway the black sheep of corporate/org functions (in terms of outcomes to company)
Indian HRs are toxic. They’re often incapable of standing up to the execs and calling out shit like what you posted - other geographies having wfh but not Indian. Some of them are even blind to harassment at work place when it comes from execs. Just totally disappointed with HR culture here.
It’s a sad state honestly. I wonder when things will get better here with them.

All in for remote work but seeing companies rolling it back like fucking crazy. We are usually told that it leads to productivity loss, slower learning curve for employees and leads to less bondage to workplace but in reality it is the other way round I feel. When I am in control of my time, productivity is usually higher, I can manage my time more efficiently to upskill and learn and also likely to attach to my workplace more due to the flexibility it provides.
I feel corporates just want to show who's the boss here that's why they pulling plug on it. Don't see a strong reason other than this.

So called management terms this as productivity loss and say that the learning curve of junior employees is reduced. So mandatory WFO. Sometime they term it as client requirement to work from office.
GrapeVine team should put a check on WFH / WFO office posts. It is same sort like those CTC checks posts. Everybody posts same kind of post every another day.
I like wfh. People might tell you will not work in wfh. But in office with all those canteen breaks, play times work and focus definitely takes a hit. I know some people want to go to office as wfh might feel lonely but you can go to coworking space any time you want.

I think as far your productivity stays the same, there’s no need to just visit the office premises to work. In the end, companies always look for your output and impact on the business.

Mandatory WFO is the most prominent form of corporate slavery. Remote work is a right of employees and anybody who believes otherwise is immature. Sunil Shetty knows jack about these things.
I was saving 90% of salary in WFH. I don't have this luxury in WFO. IN a new job, it might be bit difficult when you do WFH but after few months when you start understanding the work requirement, WFH is better
Having worked on early stage/small teams most of my life, I cannot imagine things being as productive and real in WFH. Even during covid, did see that things were just slow.
That said, just because it’s right for me/us does not mean it’s right for everyone
Unfortunately, most of these policies are set up by CXOs who are most commonly psychopaths/high functioning. Hence we will clearly gravitate towards mostly WFO soon enough.

WFH - good for companies with standardized process, everyone knows what they have to do.
WFO - Good for companies who want to move pretty fast because they can interact with each other quickly and take decisions fast.
For freshers, WFH is not good as there will be no one to guide them.

There are always two sides to the story. One size dosent fit all is an apt analogy here. We are often always only looking from our perspective over here when we keep saying wfo is bad. I am personally of the opinion that a hybrid approach works best, specially due to the points that other capable people here have also mentioned.
A thing to note is that all the comments about wfh being better kept speaking in the context of "I" vs "we".
This is the biggest thing, when people tend to wfh for long periods of time it leads to issues in how a team functions, they become rigid and part of a singular mindset which is that the work becomes a paycheck.
When folks wfo, they build commeradrie and become part of an eco system, this mentally being developed is what folks who own and run companies are looking for since this is what makes teams push to do more and also be happy with what they are doing.
In my personal opinion a hybrid approach works where folks are able to work together physically and at times in the week or month also wfh. Planning and preparing for this as an organization I believe would immensely help.
There are other angles to look at this as well where we could discuss the ethics of working for us Indians vs say folks abroad. But that's a conversation for later 😁

For 3 yrs it was all okay but suddenly remote work doesn't work anymore?
How many companies closed or had their revenue reduced because WFH was not working? None!
Once you're back to office, try asking 2 weeks WFH to go home to your parents and hear some bullshit reason like this work is urgent. And the last 3 years nothing was urgent? Nothing was built? Nothing was shipped?
It is just another bullshit flex by executive management. They are living comfortably in their 1L+/month rent flats with their family but youngsters would have to live in twin sharing PGs. They don't care how you live or eat. They don't care how difficult your life gets.
They know it's a bad market and hence you won't dare leave your job now, hence they show their true faces.

I am a supporter of WFO selectively, but for it to be effective, a certain minimum set of people you interact with also need to be there. And planning interesting interactions makes the effort worthwhile especially when someone travels long distances in rain or with children to take care at home. It shouldn't be mandated at all.

IMO it’s a mandate from the ruling class. Bengaluru, for instance stands to lose big if people did not get back to work from office. It’s just a scheme for jacking up the real estate by creating artificial demand. Almost every org had a plan to move some part of its workforce to permanent WFH which just vanished overnight. It’s your elected leaders who’ve betrayed you, funny no one sees through it.

Most of the works that we do in an IT project can most genuinely be done by following either of the two policies. Just there are pros and cons relative to each other. I believe it should depend on an individual's drive to adopt WFH or WFO.
People saying that WFH reduces productivity need to learn more about it and rely on data rather. I believe the only reason leadership wants their employees mandatorily in office is just to micro manage them. If not people working in electronic City and travelling from their home in Whitefield or Kalyan Nagar should be given the advantage of WFH but they won't. There is no actual reasoning against it.
So basically, people who wfh have become so lazy that they don't want to hear or understand the fact that they do learn more in office. Obviously corporate has their own reasons but peeth pe takiya bandh ke kaam krne wale log can't come out of their comfort zone now and start panicking whenever someone mentions wfo.
PS: I am at a junior position and I honestly love going to office. Probably people crying about wfo either don't have enthusiasm to learn, or probably have stupid people in their workplace where they can't get any learning!
There are few colleagues in my office always want to go office as they always need help to get work done, people don’t respond them on teams so they have advantage going to their desk in WFO scenario.
If you have annoying people in your team who don't let you work at office properly then work from home.
Mostly, I am for work from home better for focus most days times more work done per hour plus focus on family and work out due to saved time from traffic.
Wfo is good when setting up something with new people. I interact better/connect when face to face with new people.
