What do you guys do?
I have been sooo interested in Product Management, as an outsider with no technical knowledge but all the passion for it. I intended to become a Product Manager taking the hard route (non technical background), but at this point I am still looking to learn more about it. Please share your thoughts, experience and tips?
Hi! I was an outsider as well. I started from graphic design in my 2nd year at IIT Kharagpur, did coding in 3rd year and moved to product in 4th year. I found that practicing problem solving regularly and following freely available content online for about 90 days makes you absolutely interview ready!
This practice led me to land an APM job at urban company. After my placement, I built something that could be helpful for you as well! I thought about productising my practice routine and built Pearmock.
50% of product management preparation is practicing problem solving through mock case interviews. At Pearmock.com, you can practice mock case interviews for free and also network with product managers from all over the globe! Best part? It's all a game! We forward the profiles players who reach the highest level to the top recruiters hiring for product management!!
Feel free to connect with me if you need any more help in entering into product management. Do not purchase any courses. Trust me, it's all about practice and repetitions of solving product problems.
Best of luck!
Wow thanks a lot. I'll keep this in mind when I'm actually looking to move. It's still a few years away for me!
start by being a good IC in tech, design or growth.
Then learn a bit about the others, work on independent projects to improve learning.
Build some proof of work and apply to other companies.
PMs who are bad individual contributors will soon become obsolete.
