What inspired you to become a Product Manager?

To folks who have loved working with a Product Manager at any point, what are some of the most important traits you admired about them? Was it the personality/smartness, or their passion for work or something else entirely?

I've been working as a Senior Analyst at a startup for 4+ years, and I've always wanted to become a Product Manager to make a big difference. So, I've started getting ready for it. - I've noticed a concerning trend among PMs, both through personal observation and online discussions, where they tend to overlook data integrity, opting instead to manipulate it to portray success. - I firmly believe that Product Managers play a pivotal role in taking calculated risks, fostering innovation, and ultimately ensuring the success of their products. - Despite being well-compensated in my current position, my drive to optimize the top of the funnel compels me to pursue a career shift into Product Management. - I firmly believe that power within a company comes with a corresponding responsibility. - It's evident that many PMs are fighting with dissatisfaction, often experiencing high levels of stress and unhappiness. I'm keen to understand the root causes of this discontent and how professionals in this field are managing such challenges. - Despite being inherently talented individuals, why does Product Management seem to come with such a significant stress burden?

I have been sooo interested in Product Management, as an outsider with no technical knowledge but all the passion for it. In a world full of competition, where surving has turned out to be a struggle for the basic, I've often found myself reflecting on my own journey. Coming from a modest background, raised by misogynistic parents who never taught self reliance or drive to pursue a career, I grew up in a small town and attended an average college. My class, lacked ambition due to limited opportunities known. Unlike Tier 1! I was always curious person eager to know things and with no mentors to shape me at the right times in my life I faced the world alone. I took up various jobs, uncertain of my path, until fate led me to a product management role in a startup in the southern part of India. Suddenly, life became full of promise. For 3 years, I dedicated myself in a fast paced environment building products, understanding users, and empathizing with their pain points. It was the first time I felt content and fulfilled in something I was doing with life; something I knew how to reach. Sadly, the toxic environment in that company forced me to leave, and I ended up joining a larger company for the sake of financial stability during the challenging times of the Covid pandemic. But something was missing—I lacked the drive and speed work once had. So, I made the bold decision to quit and take a break, yearning to return to building remarkable products and feeling whole again💙 My story may not be extraordinary, but it raises questions about the biased and unfair nature of hiring practices that fail to consider the unique journeys and circumstances of individuals. Opportunities are often granted to the privileged, allowing them and their descendants to progress at a faster pace, while those who are underserved are left behind in a generational race. If you are hiring, always remember people are much more than the one pager resume or numbers in it. Give chance and take bets on people no matter. i am product manager with 6yoe and with some good brands. but lately i am wondering if this is peak and future demand of software product manager with no hands on coding experience will keep declining i sometime feels that either i have to learn coding (which i am learning) or else find a hard core industry like EV, renewable energy, batteries, semiconductor etc whats your thoughts? super curious to learn what you all feel about digital product manager? also one question where i appreciate your feedback - I have not done MBA yet but contemplating it now to make switch industry to non software. I know this is very non traditional but would love to hear feedback

I am a software engineer with 2 yrs of experience. I am kinda fascinated with the developing idea of project than developing the product. I want to switch to product management which I think somehow doing it my current job except giving the idea. I like to innovate solutions and implement then in the real world and I want people to use it. I think this would be the right path to get started into it. Doing an mba is also good option but I think moving to pm role will be a good option . It’s to crack it but not impossible. I am not sure how the feature would be for this career. Want to discuss if sabbatical being a taboo is valid and peoples opinions of it. I will start with mine Background - 8 years in tech 3 company switches Sabbatical of 1 month, 3 month and 6 month between each break. Personal experience - quite enriching. Though there was panic and anxiety of not having a job during the period, it truly helped me take a step back, reassess my career trajectory, and mostly just Destress and re prioritise Every now and then i loose my true love for tech and product and the sabbaticals helped me to rediscover that by just reading about technology that was not outcome driven ( like for switching a job) Quite rewarding each time in terms of salary jumps also. I think i was able to make a better case for myself at a particular position just because i had more time to process stuff from last job. It also helped me make better decisions for next thing which has in general helped me shape my career better ( i think atleast) Open to anyone sharing their stories/perspectives related to sabbaticals
