Now why everyone is talking about benefits of working from office?
I saw post from Sunil Shetty on linkedin.

My take is, when pandemic hit companies asked employees to WFH to keep wheel rolling.
Now we know WFH can give greater control over personal and professional life(at least for me) we don’t want to go back to office.

In my opinion corporate want us to work from office cause,

- they can control our time, 9hrs in ofc, you are getting paid for time not skills.
- they want to show who is the boss here.
- Learning is key reason for WFO, bullshit, we have a lot of learning portals and traffic time can be used to learn but it is never a intention.

What you guys think?

I have been on a permanent wfh role since covid. Yes, been 2+ years since I stepped into an office. I stay alone and have little expenses but also 0 social life. Friends are all spread out. Not on any dating app because its exhausting. Can someone just talk about any impacts on their personal life from work life? Does anyone here feel a void too? I’d love to connect.

I have been working remotely and honestly, I don't want to go to office ever (at least that's what I feel right now) 
  
 I don't want to become besties with my coworkers, and I stay with family so I'm very happy spending all my time with my favourite people in the world! I also have the option of traveling and have decided to take an out of Delhi trip every 2 months at least 
  
 I might be biased, because my parents and immediate family are professionals as well and have home offices, so all my life, I've had the kind of atmosphere where offices don't play a huge role, so I'm happy! 
  
 But yes, I suppose I do get the socialising aspect, it becomes harder to make friends as one grows older, especially when all your school/college friends have office jobs 🙃🙃

Hi , this post is intended to be a disclaimer to anyone who is planning to join Yubi. A lot of things are happening here that show some signs of an impending layoff

1) Several senior folks in tech and product have quit. Also there is no replacement hiring planned for them. Several projects are also getting shelved as a result.

2) there were several open roles a few weeks back and almost all of them are on hold as of now across all depts( tech , business , ops)

3) rampant cost cutting. The lunch options have been reduced to just 1 dal , 1 veg , rice and chapati.  Snacks have been removed too.


Because of several folks quitting in less than 6 months and no replacement hiring , load has increased tremendously on existing members who are themselves trying to leave. 

People have serious doubts on whether any hike or bonus will be given or not this year.

Do investors and leaders get FOMO? Hey Amazon has called everyone to office so let's do it too. Or does the Work from anywhere policy was temporarily to attract good talent?

FYI, this remote policy was scrapped within 1 year of implementing it.

I know a lot of people love working from home. But small rant here. 
Honestly, straight out of college I thought I would do too. But no, I absolutely do not.

Why? 
1. No personality development. It's honestly like an online college all over again (1/2 of my college "life" was online). I talk to a screen, waste a lot of time otherwise. 

2. I don't have a room to call my own. I know this is going to make me sound like a privileged brat but I need my privacy to feel my full confident self. My family members are always on top of my head and spy on me during work. No they really do.

3. I hate, absolutely LOATHE approaching people on teams. I'm more social, confident and comfortable working in an offline setting be it presenting something or talking to senior folks in general. 

4. I have NO life outside of the computer/home. My hobbies, interests everything are inside the tiny room I share with my parents. I still have 2 different desks (which are literally next to each other) for work and personal stuff respectively. When I had offline semesters, it was really awesome as I had balance.

I graduated in 2023 and of course I have a lot to learn, but I'm seriously thinking about searching for another job that's not WFH. I'm still early career and I think I should not be working remote. Am I stupid?

I cannot work remotely.

Work from home is hellish for extroverts. There is no alternative. I've tried co-working spaces. But nothing beats the actual office experience. 
  
 If you're young, go to office and build your network.

Everyone wants WFH😅😁😆

Hi guys, new to Grapevine and I have seen this as a common point here, on Reddit & Twitter than Indian software engineers actively hate in-office work on social media

Trying to understand why is that so. All of my college mates have joined in-office & most preferred that as well. I myself had a terrible learning experience in my remote intern & have had much more success in our startup when we are all together

I understand the pros of remote work, but why is the negative sentiment so strong suddenly? Is this a niche group echoing this

Literally, every single Founder I've encountered here seems to be an old, regressive, hard-headed boomer who hates the younger generation for their freedom.
 
Go through some DINK or WFH or Salary Rant posts and you'll be able to spot them. They are rigid in their mindset and call anyone who disagrees a degenerate, entitled, and (my personal favourite) 'influenced by the western media' lol.

Let's just ignore these morons and keep on bettering our life

I am 26 now. And started my career in 2018 when i was 21, and from my first day till now I am doing a wfh. Initially it felt good as you get lots of personal time, no travel time and expenses. And then in covid while people where panicking switching to wfh, I was already adapt to it very well. But lately I have now started seeing some negative  impacts of it.
1- Social life is at stake as I went to study outside my home town and almost lost all my connections here.
2- No personal interaction with people on higher position than you as that helps a lot in ones upbringing.
3- Following same life style for years and years.
4- Poor physical health and mental health being in a room for 8 hours of work, 8 hours of sleep and 2-4 hours more depending on other tasks.

Adding to it now i feel it makes more sense having a office job which makes you feel more lively and a part of society.

What's the point? I'm an engineer, I can write code from anywhere on the planet with internet and laptop.

Been looking for a role since August, while having a solid dev ex yet all these fools are WFO that reduces half the number of companies I want to work for.

Hey Fellow Grapeviners ,  I have created an anonymous Remote work survey  to distinguish   companies who offer Permanent Remote (Permanent WFH ) , Hybrid - Attendance ,  Compulsory office attendance  companies  and segregate them .
 
Often there are some circumstances ,  which favour Permanent WFH  ,  like ailing  parents  or young kid to look after ,
Also, the commute these days in most metros  is painful and often tiring . 
 Also, companies are leveraging war driven economic  troubles to push and leverage for office attendance .  
  There is still a section of employees who prefer WFH over WFO or Hybrid . 
These survey should help such people .

I know this is not what majority of people like to listen, but for people coming from other cities with no friends and poor social skills, working remote or hybrid starts taking a toll on your mental health. 

The isolation it brings is so overwhelming. You feel trapped and frustrated, when there's no one to talk to.

Sometimes, I feel the quality of life of our kind of lower than street vendors at least they have people they can talk to. I just hate the way we are wired to be social animals yet find it overly difficult to connect with people.

Unpopular Opinion: I prefer Work from Office

If you are early stage of your career if you don't have responsibility at home you should come to office it's a healthy approach but for people like me who has already spend more than a decade in office life and has a small child at home working for home is like a saviour for me and my wife
