What should I need to do to become a PM

I am getting into my second yr of MBA I did an internship in the area of market research and have skilled in power Bi, Excel, google analytics...have a good research mind and analytical thinking ability But I don't know coding i can't say my coding skill is bad becuz I don't know or don't have that skill. How can I become prodman don't have any other work experience i am a fresher

In my opinion, freshers don’t make good PMs. A lot of APM roles in orgs are meant for doing grunt work that nobody wants to. So don’t blindly follow the PM trend.

As a fresher, pick a role where you can make immediate business impact such as Sales, digital marketing etc. This way you can learn how a company operates and understand how different functions like engineering, marketing, design, sales work together to earn every rupee for the company.

I personally have 8+ years of PM experience but I started my career in digital marketing and growth. I was able to ease into a PM better than my peers who became PMs fresh out of college.

If you get an APM role, then go for it. But he very conscious of the fact that you need to learn a lot about business and engineering. If you don’t get an APM role, it’s ok. Pick a role in marketing, sales or a generalist in a startup. Then you can move into a PM role after 2-3 years.

@Soprano90 Can you share how much I can earn after 2-3yrs and getting a PM role in startups or any of the reputed companies, some companies are asking about the coding part also, is it will be a hurdle for me to get a PM role

In 2-3 years realistically you can earn a minimum of 15-20 lpa and can go upto 30-35 lpa if you get lucky. You don’t need to code to become a PM. PMing and coding are two very different full-time roles. That being said, you need to understand what goes behind in building a digital product. So it becomes important for you to understand how engineers, designers and marketers work to make the product successful.

Whatever salaries that you read about online are because of the bull market run we had last year. There will be a market correction so expect the salaries to get lower in the foreseeable future
