While the fixed salary for MBB post MBA  is in the range of 28-34lpa (differs through each firm and top IIM campus), the major advantage of MBB employment comes in the form of 5 star hotel accommodations, flight tickets, conveyance, even daily food reimbursements to the tune of 2k/day whenever you're traveling on a project for a client, which is often. It is a certain kind of lifestyle.  
 The salaries and perks are different for implementation roles and back office capability roles.

- Do these companies take lateral hires? I have seen only IIM candidates freshly graduated being taken in
I'm not IIM, but MBA with 6 years of work ex

- MBB have shittiest WLB and highest money. Which comes down as per tier. Which is the best tier to get into, so I have best of both worlds (less shitty WLB with lesser money)

I  am working as a software developer in Oracle( btech from old IIT) . Its been 2 years and I now want to switch to management consulting (preferable in MBB) to experience it so want to give MBA.

1. I did some research but I want to gain some information on the salary aspect of it. I heard that the salaries are not that high they would probably be in the same range that I am getting now. BUT, I want to know in the long run do consultants get more hikes compared to tech roles? 

2. I heard the wlb is pretty bad so is there some resource that I can study to know if thats the right suit for me since its a big risk I’ll be taking moving on to a different field. There are some good exit opportunities also I believe after MBB can someone tell more about it.

Would really appreciate some answers on this. Its on my head for a long time. Cheers!

Got to know from multiple people that were joining top consulting firms that their onboarding is deferred by 6 months (across places like Bain, McK etc)

Already enough existing employees aren’t on active cases, and so it seems like they’ve hired more than there is demand for cases, people who have actually been sitting on the bench for months 

If demand does not return, this could really stack up and lead to a problematic situation

The hiring has been over optimised, the batch of 2024 and the summer intern batch, count of new hires should go back to 2019 levels

How is the promotion scene looking like? Are you hearing of headcount rationalization in the India offices? 

Folks were expecting natural attrition will help with HC nos, I don't think it has really played out that way

While actual bonus amount hasn't changed, they've adjusted the % for high performers. 4 raters were previously paid 150% and 5 raters were paid 200%

Insight #1:
"Build as much pedigree as you can."

This means going to the right schools, the right clubs, the right academics and the right extra-curriculars.
This also means that you need to get good brands on your resume early and fast. Working in NA, EMEA, Singapore and Australia is typically a plus point.

You typically need to go to M7 schools or IIM-BLACKI or ISB to even have a remote shot at getting in.
This means great GRE/GMAT scores are a necessity. This also means that you need to really nail your LORs. Finally, you need to have exceptional spikes that changes the way people perceive you and your potential translating into a resume. 

Insight #2:
"They care about optics a lot."
The way you look, speak and conduct yourself is probably the biggest thing you can do to improve your odds of getting in. Being at the right places is important. This means if you are already in social circles with Management Consulting folks then some of their habits will rub off on you. This also means that playing Tennis, going to the Gym, going Golfing/Squash/ whatever rich guy sport, the right parties, restaurants and clubs is an underrated advantage.


Insight #3:
"Prepare for Case Interviews"
Case interviews are a crucial part of the consulting recruitment process. Practice solving case studies and seek guidance from mentors or resources to improve your case interview skills. 'Case in Point' is your fucking bible and you need to make sure that you can work your way around guesstimates and reach a conclusive solution in an insight driven manner.

Insight #4:
"Be prepared to walk away."

MBB is not the end of the world and you can out do your peers in terms of Money earned per unit effort spent easily in other fields. So, don't care about what happens. Double down on your Plan B instead.

But if you want to travel the world, walk shoulder to shoulder with some of the smartest people in the business then it is not a bad option.

Accenture emerged as the top recruiter in the final placements for the PGP Class of 2024 at IIM Ahmedabad, with 26 offers. BCG followed closely with 23 offers. Goldman Sachs led among investment banks with nine offers, while Adani made the highest number of offers in the general management domain. The placement season saw a decline in management consulting offers but an increase in niche consulting and conglomerate hiring. TCS and PwC were prominent recruiters as well.
