Isn't it necessary to do on call if you write the code?

Some banks or companies don’t require. They have separate support team to tackle first

Software Engineer

First line of defence is always production support and onyl then are on call engineers called

Ya I have a friend who used to work in a mid size brokerage firm and they had separate support team. So devs are only called if support team is not able to fix the issue.

System Engineer

Try internal teams which creates custom middleware or such. They don’t usually have it.

What do you think about a company asking you to be on-call when you've joined as a software engineer and not told beforehand that this would be expected of you.

What is your experience about being on-call for Saas products and waking up in the middle of the night to look at alerts.

Being on-call as a software engineer

I have been working in an internal project at a service-based company for almost 3 years now (that's my total YOE) and I feel like I need to move out of my comfort zone. (more so because I've been rotting in my home location since the pandemic). I want to move to a different country and work there (temporary is fine as well)

Can you guys name a few companies that provide onshore opportunities (outside India, preferably European countries) along with the criteria to be deployed on such projects? Please also mention if Visa is arranged by the company or not

Hey guys, i'm planning to switch my company after 8 months in the company and there is a notice of 2 months so that would be 10 months in the company. I feel out of place here, though I have delivered so far (6 months) because i'm picking tasks which I know, I don't know how long it will last. sick of these companies forcing work from office down our throats, while stifling increments for the last 2yrs saying ‘you get to work from home, save a lot’. now suddenly they want everyone to come back to office, and they conveniently forget that they gave us shitty increments using wfh as an excuse.
