Who is a person you used to respect, but don't any more?

This is a curious question from someone who is exactly opposite to what hustle culture boasts about. It is also my attempt to understand how people are capable of pushing themselves to limits that are not natural, that too, for months and sometimes years.

Context on my contrarianism:
- I don't have an ounce of inclination to push myself to work relentlessly. I don't thrive in such practice, nor do I want to put my health at unnecessary risk.
- Even if I wanted to try to follow the hustle culture, I am physically incapable of doing it. My mind and body shut down after 2-3 days if I have long working hours. I don't compromise on sleep, but the toll of long continuous work hours, even for such a short period of time, is my bane.

For me it isn't a choice between can't or won't, it is both.

Hence the questions:
1. Why are you doing this? 
2. How do your mind and body endure working for hours on end with less time to refuel with sleep?

Napoleon, The French Emperor and Military Commander

I've been watching a few documentaries on his military tactics. His innovative tactics and organisational reforms revolutionised warfare, setting the standard for modern military operations. His military campaigns, known as the Napoleonic Wars, reshaped the map of Europe and influenced military thought for generations.

Personally, the battle at Austerlitz remains to be the best showcasing Napoleon's tactical brilliance and audacious maneuvering. In the midst of a freezing December day, his Army faced the combined forces of the Russian and Austrian empires atop the icy Lake Satschan. With the enemy mistakenly believing his right flank was weak, Napoleon executed a deception, withdrawing his troops to lure the Allies onto the fragile ice. As the ice cracked and creaked beneath their weight, the French unleashed their firepower, shattering the frozen surface and sending thousands of enemy soldiers plunging into the icy waters, resulting in multiple casualties and ultimately victory.

Napoleon's rise from humble beginnings to becoming Emperor and his eventual downfall at the Battle of Waterloo is a legendary story of ambition and power.

Rant alert: 

Have you felt the same way? How many years of work ex after which you started feeling this way? 

Stability and money I’m grateful for. But I hate the constant comparison and competitiveness among peers/colleagues. Makes me want to quit and do a Teach for India fellowship. A little corporate detox. 

Wish I had become an athlete instead. I know it’s not an easy life, but It’s the kind of competitiveness I’m inclined towards. Not inclined towards the kind where you compete with people to please a company that will never care for you as a human. But people fail to recognise that, lose perspective, and lose themselves too. People have no class in this shitty world. If I have kids, they’re definitely becoming athletes and not entering this hellhole. 

Most ironically, I’m borderline considering an MBA to escape the corporate life for 2 years, but obviously I’m aware I will only get entrenched further in it due to the degree.

Corporate is not for me

Oh man. Just hoping for the day i can quit it all. Right now on the blue pill, but ek din ayega. I'm convinced only sociopaths and people with no personalities can enjoy being in this rut. Lavda build something - it's just about keeping the hamster wheel rolling.

The people I see running are people who are physiologically built for running, particularly the distance runners. Ditto for people who ride bicycles, swim, do cross fit, etc. The form of exercise invariably chooses the person rather than the other way around. Those who excel will generally be the ones whose physical make up “fits” the exercise best. It is not a matter of mental toughness or preparation or anything else: running likes runners, swimming likes swimmers, and strength training likes strong people.

What is your controversial opinion on Fitness?

Can someone who’s studied MS Dhoni in more detail speak more about how he got where he did in life? 
He seems to be extremely calm and composed and a really successful leader at whichever team he leads. 

I was shook by how calm he was throughout the CSK winning final. 

How did a guy from such a small town end up becoming such a big legend even though he doesn’t have Virat or Sachin level talent.

MS Dhoni's mindset

Sure, football's a bigger sport globally but we have won 2 consecutive medals in hockey. And yet, no one gives a crap about hockey when the Olympics are not on. 

I'm no better. 

It is weird to me that Sunil Chhetri is a star without having played at the top level, and hockey player with Olympic medals rarely get any recognition. Nothing against football or Chhetri but this is quite sad.
