Why 4+ rounds of interviews

Indian SDEs on LinkedIn & Twitter are some of the worst engineers you will ever find across the real world. Their typical value lies around: - Cracking a FAANG/MAANG or Product company. - Make an announcement on LinkedIn & Twitter and accumulating followers. - Starting YouTube channel, Topmate links, affiliate marketing channels, and more. - Rant DSA, System Design, Interview resources all day long. - Post daily of their office, their colleagues, candid shots, and barely getting any work done. While this is expected out of early career professionals, it pains to see senior SDEs doing the same shit over and over again. Things don't end here — Everyone talks about creating a revolution. And the revolution is teaching DSA. If you are an experienced SDE and still ranting DSA, it just means that you have barely learnt anything that is of worth any value. You are atmost a "Ticket Engineer". You get assigned a Jira ticket, you bust your ass solving it, and that's it. That's your entire value. Its high time that these "Bhaiya", "Didis", "Bhabhis" stop ranting DSA and System Design over and over, and build something of real value. You would barely see any credible open-source projects coming out of India (but hey, we have some many contributors!), barely any Indie dev project, or anything that captures the attention of the world. Literally every popular SDE you might follow or see over your social media is the same. Their entire community game is a farce and designed to capture gullible college students and shill thousands of rupees out of them. You might be featured on Times Square ($40 ka showoff), but no one would remember you for anything that you built. <Rant Over. Peace>

Now a days, candidate experience has been tossed out of window. Companies and Talent hunt team are expecting candidates to go through multiple rounds of interviews with no clarity on rounds held, with multiple reschedules and delays with lot of uncertainty. what grapeviners thoughts about it? is it fair to have this practice?

Org’s that conduct 6-7 rounds of interviews before rejecting a candidate. Don’t you think the hiring process is broken ?

Recently I have been interviewed by a company and cleared the first round. Then I had 2nd round of the interview conducted through intervue.io which is a outsourced platform. The interviewer was least bothered to know what I am doing in my current role and how I can contribute to org but only conducted interviews by posting code snippet to solve. Do you think it is right way to conduct interviews? Please share your experience

I was hiring for a web designer in last role. We had an internal referral, and I checked her portfolio before reaching out. She had multiple projects, worked with many customers across countries, the designs were fresh and inviting, no clutter. She was the one (for the role)! Exactly what we were looking for. I had a budget of 25-30LPA, had quoted 19-24 LPA (because well) Her expectations were 30-33 LPA Cut to, she was the only one till final round and they were processing her offer letter at 31LPA Find your star and make it shine bright!

Hi Guys, I am attending an interview process for Lead Data Science. I want to know the previous experiences with to improvise my interview experience. The company having 5 rounds and each round is an elimination (the scary part). First round is DSA and Data Science fundamental. Where I have learnt DSA 5years ago and now I’m out of practice. For Data Science it might be more like ML (I assume). Second round is System Design, which will be more on designing system and scalability Third round is more off Technical And Managerial around. 4th round is managerial round 5th round is HR discussion I want to know where to prepare for all the rounds and what’s the efficient way to prepare for it.

So basically I don't hesitate in challenging the interviewer if I feel like they don't know how to interview a senior candidate so during many interviews, this is how I have caught them off guard: 1. The interviewer was asking me technical questions and expecting to explain properly throughout. So at the end i asked him about the tech stack they use, he said Azure. I asked him why they use Azure and not AWS, to which he said "it's cheaper", i didn't let it go, i asked him for a proper technical explanation, his red face was worth seeing. 2. The interview asked me a hard DSA question, and I wasn't able to solve it properly, he didn't even give me enough hints, just expected me to solve it. So halfway I asked him, would you like to solve a DSA if I ask you right now, he said no because it's not his interview. To which I asked, are you afraid that you won't be able to solve? If you are going to reject me for not solving this question, would you resign if you aren't able to solve the question. He ended the call. 3. One interviewer was asking me absurd technical detailed questions. I asked him why are you asking such questions, he said he needs to know my thought process because he will work with me. I started asking him similar questions, he said he won't answer because it's not his interview. I said I also need to know your thought process because we'll work together, so you should also answer these questions, he had no reply. 4. The interviewer asked me about a challenging project that I had done recently. I don't like this question at all. So I said there wasn't any challenging project because I'm good at what I do so it's always easy for me. He moved on to the next question. 5. HR asked me why I resigned without an offer? I asked if it's mandatory? No reply.

I received a call and a subsequent HRank test for this company Lytx. There was a DSA problem where: For a given MxN matrix containing only 1s or 0s, we had to identify the minimum number of left or right cyclical shifts required on the row for getting at least 1 column with all ones. Sample Input: ['1001,'0101,'0000'] I used chat gpt and still couldn't figure out an exact solution, leave aside solving it on my own. Question for the community: Say they select me for a further round anyways, will the interview as well be this brutal in terms of DSA ? Are these companies expecting programming prodigies or am I just not there in terms of my problem solving journey ? Hoping for some brutally honest responses.

Does any one work for startup’s which are not based in India? What should be the ideal compensation expectation in such cases. Is it fair to ask for a salary equivalent to that of an US software dev if the startup is based in the US?
