Why are HR's not transparent

I currently have a job where I can be laid off anytime. I started attending interviews with other companies. To my luck I got selected in a company, interviews were done and final documents were submitted. HR said only the offer discussion round is pending. He said it will be done on Thursday but no response. I followed up on Thursday. He said Friday for sure and no response on Friday too.

What should I do now ? How often should I follow up? Have you faced a similar situation how did you overcome

Don't follow up. Stay put. Trust me.

Why ? Any specific reason?

They're evaluating other options. Frankly, do not waste time and your mental peace chasing these people. They'll come to you when other options are not available. In the mean time, you put your effort in other direction

They are probably finding someone cheaper

Why can't they just be transparent

Did you mention that you might get laid off soon to the HR or HM?

Nope

Then either they are trying to see how desperate you are so that they can lowball you.

Or like the other person mentioned, they are just having multiple candidates.

Against popular opinion, I would suggest to keep following up till they say a NO. Better to be in line of sight so they don’t forget you - that’s the only way to be in the right place at the right time.
