Why is there no work life balance in Indian corporate setup?

Recently the CHRO of my company called me into a discussion on improving WORK LIFE BALANCE. Wow. I just cannot understand. Look at this. 1. Most companies work 5 days a week. (Except retail operations). So you get 52 weeks x 2. 104 days. 2. 30 days annual leav 3. 9 days statutory holidays. 4. Operational holidays. 3. 145 days of 365 days corporate people don’t come to office. And in a hybrid format even more. It is these corporate vultures who want work life Balance. How can u balance your life if u r unable to do it in 145 days. So Narayana murthy is right - work hard like 80% of india. Who have almost no weekly off. Just saying.

Had nowhere to write about this but I feel so angered. Young people should work 70 HOURS? IN A WEEK? For what? Why is there 70 hours worth of work to do? You pay consultancy firms and good for nothing managers to optimise things and make it more efficient, no? Why can't you make sure work happens within the 40-50 hours? Or readjust deadlines and expectations at least? The employees allow you to bring in more profits, no? Hire more people - let them spread the workload. Give them more time off. Let them use the 40-50 hours they're already putting in more effectively instead of pressuring them to put more hours? A skilled potter takes less time to make a pot than an idiot trying it for the first time. Does that mean the idiot is more hard working? What is your logic in saying that Indians need to put in more hours to compete with the world? Put more money into your employees no? An extremely bright engineering friend of mine was given a <3 LPA offer from Infosys. That kind of amount is a rounding error for any single client order and you're playing games with someone's livelihood? Shame on you.

How many companies still have 6 days working? I am in robotics/manufacturing in MSME, I have a 6 day Workweek, is it a general trend in manufacturing or general trend in MSME?

Works never seems to end and there are hardly any boundaries left. Unless you are in management, it’s super difficult to define and maintain boundaries. How have we come to this ? Isn’t technology supposed to make us all time-rich ?

Lately, seeing many posts on Grapevine around work being transactional. Something where you put in X hours and get paid Y. It can possibly mean a combination of two things: 1. They're not emotionally vested in the work they do everyday. Perhaps, something else interests them more. 2. They're several degrees of connection away from the impact they make. Imagine a Backend Engineer, who corresponds with their EM who in-turn corresponds to the Product team who in turn talk with the users. Essentially, the backend engineer is 2 degrees away from the users. In most large organisations you can be 5+ degrees of connection away from the people you impact. Hence, they feel that the work they do is not purposeful enough. What do you all think about this? Do you find your work purposeful?
