Do you believe edtech companies are effective? Most of them end up selling shit to poor parents

CosmicPanda
CosmicPanda

See EdTech companies do have effective programs as well. Not all programs are how it is perceived in public opinion.

Even here at Upgrad we’ve had students who have managed to upskill themselves and move onto better careers which would’ve been difficult otherwise.

The counsellor you get should be someone who actually understands your profile and your requirements and helps you based on that. Always do your own research before getting into something.

So yeah EdTechs are not just selling gold wrapped shit to people. It will definitely change the education sector with time and by then only the good ones will survive.

How does upgrad make money by placing students? If they take a percentage of CTC then how much do they take from the company? I want to know about this sector in particular in depth. Happy to connect

Nah UpGrad doesn’t make money out of placing students. We don’t take a cut from their CTC’s or from the company hiring them.

The concept is that companies need people who not only have a degree anymore but they want someone who’s got a kind of practical knowledge or have upskilled themselves as per industry requirements. Besides these courses have been designed with their help as well.

So the EdTech companies are able to provide students with job opportunities and for the company the benefit is that they get employees who are better than what they get from regular recruitment drives.

If you want to know more in depth about this or anything related to do it definitely reach out and I’ll try and help as much as I can or connect you to people who will be able to.

Hey, thanks so much for doing this

Have been always curious about Upgrad’s primary business What kind of courses make the most amount of money for the company?

Do people do it for outcomes or certificates?

CosmicPanda
CosmicPanda

No issues. I like talking to people 🙌🏾

UpGrad has many verticals now so each vertical has a different objective. However the primary focus is on the courses for working professionals which are in collaboration with universities within India and abroad.

Coming to the reason why people do it , there are people who do it for a certification or degree while others are more focused on the placement side of things or career growth. So depending on the need the counsellors would be suggesting the right program for them.

My knowledge on this particular incident is very limited. I’ve also heard this story but at this time I cannot verify this.

From which team are you? Is it content? My friend is in delivery & have heard that situation is so bad that Teacher/TAs haven't been paid since aug.

Do LLMs like Chat GPT (and the upcoming race to make even better models) worry you? Or are you planning on moving into the same space. It would make sense in my opinion. At least to start with investing in R&D? Is that planned?

CosmicPanda

End of the day you still need people who have an idea on how things work for them to even operate LLMs like Chat GPT to the extent that would make education obsolete.

Technology will always progress and make things easier and that’s how it has been and always will be. However behind the tech there has to be a team of human beings who are able to make use of it.

DerpyQuokka

Yea. It’s definitely not binary - only human/only AI. The question was whether there are any plans to integrate this tech in any way. I’m guessing that visibility would lie with the founders and board at this point.
