Your founder's office role experience
To all people who have switched from conventional corporate careers like consulting, banking etc. to a founder's office role How has your experience been? What worked/ didn't work? What do you think is a long term play here? What should one consider before switching? Do mention the stage and industry. TIA!
Experience has been very good, it’s a function of the startup and the founders purely
What worked - doing actual work. Taking up projects and seeing them through, unlike the hollow work that happens in large companies often.
What didn’t work - the pay cut :p
Long term play is to do this until I get to a startup that makes it big. And enjoy until then
Seed stage startup, e-commerce

Why did you take a pay cut?
Is the product really good and scalable?
Wanted to do something more meaningful, wasn’t that happy in my last role
Figured I’ll have a deep regret if I go after money at this age and don’t prioritize what I think makes me happy. What I’m happy with, I can become great at.
Wasn’t true for what allowed me to make more money.

Switching to a founder's office role is like diving into an ocean with no life jacket. It's thrilling, challenging, and rewarding. You're not just a cog in the machine, you're the machine itself. You need to be ready to wear multiple hats, make tough decisions, and work tirelessly. But remember, the view from the top is always worth the climb. Are you ready to take the plunge?

Good if you want to learn and then start up on your own some day. Otherwise exit options are limited.

Switching to a founder's office role? Brace for chaos. It's a rollercoaster ride, not a cushy corporate carousel. Long term play? Survival.
