Logical reasoning and puzzle questions

I was recently called for an interview, and the interviewer asked me a puzzle. It goes something like this: "You have two containers, C1 and C2, both filled with equal volumes of oil and water, respectively (i.e., C1 -> oil volume V and C2 -> water volume V). A spoonful of liquid is taken from C1 and poured into C2, then a spoonful of liquid is taken from C2 and poured into C1. After these two steps take place, which container will have higher purity (concentration of oil for C1 and that of water for C2)?" I thought for a while and answered C1, citing that since we put pure oil from C1 into C2 but a mix from C2 into C1, certainly some oil from C2 is back in C1, thereby achieving more purity. The interviewer said it was wrong and asked me to try again. This time, I did some actual math and was told C2 would have a greater concentration based on the calculations. The interviewer again tagged me wrong, so I asked the interviewer to explain, and his answer was that both would be equal since you take 1 spoon of oil from C1 to C2, and put 1 spoon of water from C2 to C1. This is obviously flawed, as no oil is getting back on the spoon when you dip it into C2. I wanted to point that out but didn't. Later, I re-did my math thoroughly and found that C2 would have a greater purity of water.

Role: Data scientist It's my 2nd round but I am clueless what else they are going to ask!?

How are most of the data scientist or mle interviews at faangmula/big tech/unicorns like? Is it leetcode cosing style or SQL or ml algos or stats or python based questions?

Every second/third post on my feed is promoting some mentorship/coaching. Fed up with it. The post starts with some gyaan ( mostly related to interview) and then ends with mentorship or coaching promo. Especially people who cracked interview at amazon and microsoft. And now any random company. Some post has pic too, which is fully unrelated to the post. From SDE’s perspective. Job at work is different from interview. And i am sure current employees, if they have to go through interview process of the same company for the same position, most of them won’t be able to crack in the first go. ( Unless they know the exact questions to be asked ). Coding rounds. Companies usually have a set of questions (question bank) and interviewer picks question from it. Except for the very exceptional case, it is quite difficult to solve these questions if you haven’t solved them ( or related questions) earlier in the given time. So, it all boils down to how close are you to their question bank. So, instead of other things, if linkedin mentors posted about the questions they were asked, that would be more useful. Applied at a startup for a business role and got a Logical Reasoning Test to solve in the name of a Cognitive Test and this is for a> 10-person startup.

What sort of questions are asked in big4 for a data scientist role with 3.5 years of experience?

I believe most of the questions available on the internet are quite redundant to test someone's system design knowledge. I'm not looking for typical questions like building YouTube/Instagram/Whatsapp, which are only for beginners. I'm looking for questions which you are able to answer on the basis of your personal experience, in depth questions. e.g how did you use indexing/sharding/query optimisation/rate limiting etc in your project? what would you do in a so&so situation? the questions which show me whether a person has actually worked on the systems instead of just having the theoretical knowledge. I know it depends on how the interviewer asks the question, because it's supposed to be vague but I'm still looking for very specific questions. So please tell me, what are such questions which you like to ask someone or the questions which you were asked in an interview ? or just share your interesting system design interview experience, would be helpful to others.

I am currently working for Walmart as an IN 3. I am interviewing for new relic this Saturday. I am earning 32 Lpa with 21 base Is it worth interviewing and joining this company? If yes what kind of questions can I expect in the interview? I had an online test with some mcqs and 2 dsa questions. 1 was easy and the other was medium. HR sent me this Kindly note candidates will have 2 rounds of technical discussion and 1 HR round 1. Problem-Solving Skills and Situation based scenarios 2. Candidate experience in his/her projects and executions 3. Overall candidate performances in terms of communication, ownership & commitment, and coding skills If anyone has already interviewed for new relic or if knows what kind of questions can we expect. Please do share them. Also how much compensation can i expect?

Most data engineer or architect interviews have a system design, ds algo round. But real world work hardly requires writing any algos or working beyond Lists or Hash maps. What is the point of asking questions on skills which are not relevant to the job?
