Layoff, employment gaps
Hello, all i have a gap of 6 months, will it affect me to find jobs as i carry 1.5 year of experience causing me a lot of diffculties while getting shortlisted ? What should i do , feeling stressed ? I need your advice and if there is any opportunity for me i am open up for that, my tech tack is frontend development with using react, redux, vue js.
The stress that you’ve facing is naturally valid, esp in Indian market/mindset where people think gaps are some major red flag - as if we have jobs lying around and we aren’t interested in joining!!
Anways, always answer with confidence first - if you’re hesitant they can easily tell that. You haven’t committed a crime so be proud of whatever you have till now. Next, you can always say things like - you were freelancing on a retainer, or working on a project in family business, working as independent consultant with a client, etc. until the correct fit of company and projects came up.
But most important- Confidence- i stress again on this!! Its a crazy and saturated market so dont blame yourself ever!
Look for keywords,go to job descriptions on LinkedIn,well found etc and see what skills are in demand for backend/full stack roles, keep upskilling.Create naukri profile buy premium if possible.(Make sure you watch striver's resume video for creating a resume).
About the employment gap:
I had 8 months of gap,2 years back.Hardly any companies asked for a reason. But yeah,if you are in the HR round be honest about your gap(I had to undergo surgery). Also no company asked for proof of me getting admitted to hospital or surgery.
Do worry about it too much.Focus on skills, set a daily routine.
If a company does reject you because of the gap it just means they have a toxic culture it's better for you.
