GrapeVine’s anonymity is not actual anonymity, because accounts are linked to phone numbers. Imagine if grapeVine gets hacked, everyone’s identity would be open as air. I wonder why didn’t GrapeVine folks allowed registration via email, that would have been far more anonymous.
They wouldn't be able to control spam
@SabChangaSi There could be other ways of controlling spam, like limiting number of accounts from same IP address, and putting better content filter on the app etc. I don’t think it would have been a big issue, specially when grapevine is not superfamous right now. Later on they could have introduced more safeguards if spam flooding would have become a concern .
Tbh a large company like WhatsApp is fighting our govt for our privacy, Grapevine is too young to defend it rn incase something does happen.
WhatsApp and privacy is not something that goes hand in hand
We should also understand why government wants to track messages. Tracking criminals has become hard. Back those in sms days, one could easily track the origin of message and thus tracking criminals was easy. But now with all encrypted social media services, planning crimes is easy. So one should also understand goverment's perspective
