If they do this in India, Not red flag but a read alarm would be blaring on all screen.

Its an open secret that most people do nothing. We pretend to look busy. it goes all the way to the top.

On any given day, if i work honestly focusing on my deliverables, i can finish it in 4 hrs, tops. But i don't. I stretch a 30 min work to 3 hrs. If i finish in 30 mins, my manager will find mistake just to make me rework and re work will go on till the last minute. But if i deliver even a shoddy work at the last minute, they will accept it and move on. How can i stretch the 30 Mins work to 3 hrs? By doing nothing like commenting nonsensical gyan on GV, pretending to be economist, on odd days i usually fight Brahminical patriarchy, on even days i support mens rights... In india, some things are better not talked about. one of them is productivity.

Wait till you find out that principal engineers are paid so that they can type 20 lines of code and save company 10+ M dollars.

It's downright dumb to use these metrics as "productivity flags".

What these dumbfks don't realise is that being glued to screen != being productive. In some cases like Data Entry, sure!
For instance As an software engineer your job, is to solve problems. Coding is just 20% of the job. Can you justify these metrics for such an individual?

Some type slow, that doesn't necessarily mean they're any less productive.

This all looks lucrative on paper, but holds no true value other than giving egoistic managers reason to berate/belittle/lay you off.

Empires were built when these tools didn't exist.
