As a Software developer, can you mention your YoE and how much time you spend coding (writing new code)?

I will go first I have 5 YoE . I have not written new code since many weeks. Usually i have been working on fixing issues. This is the reason i want to know how much time people spend on writing new code .

How do you structure your day? Do you do all teh coding in the morning and then do everything else after that?

Generally I priorities writing my own features first unless a review is blocked on me. Post that I pick up these things.

5+ YOE, write new code everyday. A few weeks ago, I was also in the fixing issues stage. It comes and goes in phases as the system grows.

9+ yoe. Still actively writing code but mostly building internal tools/libraries that can be used across teams. Other than that rest of the time is spent bug fixing, estimating new features, guiding junior devs.

2+ YOE, moved to a us startup few months back and now I write a lot of Go here. I probably spend around 4-5 hours everyday writing code and I’m glad that the time spent is fairly divided across writing features, fixing bugs and writing solid unit tests for them.

I mean it depends. If the priority is stabilising existing system, you’ll be fixing bugs and improving upon existing codebase.

If the focus is on new features or new product line, you’ll be writing a lot of fresh code. And reusing stuff from stable systems.

1.5 years. I write fairly good amount of code weekly. Some days I solve bugs but write new code most of the time. On an average i spend 3-4 hours daily writing new code.
