What % of your annual income do you spend on travel?

International travel to SE Asia is cheaper than domestic travel these days.

I travel twice per year and I plan it during long holidays (plus few leaves). I have a friend who is a CA, he basically does WFH and he travels every month. As far as monetary situation is concerned, I save enough for the travel 6 months at a time and my friend spends every single rupee he’s got into travel. No savings, just experiences and photos. And I don’t think “everyone” is travelling around the world. You’re only seeing one travel one person did in one year or in their entire lifetime. You’ve seen enough of those one time events from different individuals, it looks like people are just travelling all the time.

I spend a lot on petrol for back and forth from office .. due to Bangalore jams

I don’t travel a ton but I would guess anything less than 10% should be fine.

Add to that, people with full time jobs - how are you travelling? Just weekends?

Travelling is so much fun. I usually spend close to 40% of my salary on travelling and experiential activities.

1. Go local and vacation nearby. Roadtrips or overnight bus/train journeys are cheap, they free up 2 nights and are comfortable in 2023. Saving up on the to- and fro- travel frees your budget for better living expenses and other experiences. 2. Book Airbnbs or hostels: Zostels are well equipped and have propped up a generation of solo travellers in India. Have had pleasant interactions so far. 3. Travel light: Suitcases are worst experience and the literal luggages which hold you back. Being agile has prodded me to extend my trips to weeks and multiple destination and stays.

Doesn't take much to travel locally on weekends/long weekends. Plenty of cheap options in the market.

This year I spent roughly 18% of my annual salary on travel, it'll likely endup around 25% after accounting for new year trip. Expect to utilise all leaves alloted. I'm single, do some solo travel and some trips with parents, and as my salary is very low so the % comes out higher, otherwise it's not much.
