No sure who told you that people of all religions were living peacefully. And how you bought into this narrative. There is no true Islamic country in this world now or ever where people of other faiths lived peacefully under islamic rule. The very basics of sharia (islamic law) makes believers of other faiths a second class citizens. Either you pay jiziya or convert or die. That's the only three options.

But think about why is the narrative suddenly directed towards the Chinese? This is classic tactic of shifting blame. Do not fall for this. China has not been a global aggressor like the US and backed vessel states. It's always been the genocidal "isrehellies" committing war crimes, including exploding personal use devices in the region (which is why the officials used the pagers in the first place).
