Can anyone guide me on this situation?

Hi everyone, I really need some advice on a recent issue I faced at work.

I had a 1:1 conversation with my reporting manager regarding an emergency leave. Just to give some context—I had an ankle sprain back in February, and unfortunately, the pain has started again recently. I wanted to take leave (on LOP as I don’t have any earned leaves left) to get it checked properly.

The discussion didn’t go well. Instead of a regular conversation, my manager spoke to me quite rudely, and it escalated into an argument. I felt disrespected and uncomfortable throughout the interaction.

Initially, I had already visited a hospital here in the city where I'm currently working (X location), but I wasn’t satisfied with the treatment. That’s why I wanted to travel to my hometown for a second opinion—somewhere I’m more comfortable, and my parents also advised me to do the same.

When I explained this to him, he responded with something like, “Now you have to listen to the management also, I don’t care about your parents.” That comment really shocked me. It felt insensitive and unnecessary. He also made a sarcastic comment like, “Are your parents also like this?” which I found extremely unprofessional and personally offensive.

I also raised a point about the practical aspect of getting treated alone, like who would take care of me here, and his reply was, “How did you come here from your hometown? Even if you ask an auto, they’ll take you to a hospital.” I wasn’t expecting that kind of response when I was just expressing a genuine concern about being alone and needing support during a medical situation.

To make things worse, in front of my colleagues, he opened hospital addresses on one of their laptops and started suggesting hospitals publicly. It felt really awkward and embarrassing. He also made a comment about me having a “childhood mindset,” which felt belittling and dismissive.

I honestly don’t know what to do now. I feel this crossed a line, and I’m not sure how to approach it. I want to escalate this to my project manager or HR, but I also want to make sure I go about it in the right way.

Has anyone been in a similar situation? What would be the best and most professional way to handle this? I’d really appreciate any advice or guidance on this.

Thanks in advance.
