one important rule - its should be totally unrelated to the sector in which looking for a job .

1. helped a friend set up a business - any business0- grocery store, steel trading, agri commodity, bakery etc.. pick any.
2. took a study break. but tell them you learnt a skill thats complementary and not main stream.
3. startup idea. It failed as you couldn't get funding. It need not be true. just make it sound real. easiest way a is pick a idea that is slightly famous in your city. not something very big, just big enough to have brand recall. say that you both started at same time, but they were able to scale it bigger than your startup.
4. relocation plan. if you are married, tell them you quit because your wife got a good job and you have take care of the kid. modify it according to your circumstance. if no kid, then say you had to move to a different city for your wife to work.

Sky is the limit if you decide to lie. The best lie is one when they know you are lying but they pretend to belive you, And you pretend that you are a good liar.
