Recession and layoff related?

Had this thought since long back, but there's one common pattern I have witnessed. Since the Twitter layoffs, all the companies out there (including FAANG/MAANG) have joined with the layoffs trend. What's surprising is that most of these companies have had a great financial year and made profits in billions. Recession is a time when markets go down and companies can't retain their customers due to economic or socio-political issues. So the current situation has made me question whether the layoffs are actually due to this fancy term called 'Recession', which most of the tech influencers out there are preaching and selling thier courses with (shame on them for doing so during these times) or is it actually the VC's control over the companies which is making the CEO's take such decisions? All things aside, My heart goes out with people who have been impacted by layoffs. Don't forget that there is a thin line between being laid off and being fired, so don't lose your confidence and look out for new opportunities and sell yourself in the market. Never forget, no matter how the market conditions are, if you are skilled and good at what you do jobs will always find you. Stay Positive and be strong!

Why do some startups lay off people even when they know that they'll be raising money soon via new funding? Case in point: Dunzo Are these employees given severance? Or is it just that Hi, Hello, Today is your last day, thank you, bye that you see most startups do? What are your thoughts on this?

Do you think instead of laying off employees , its better to cut some % of employees salary which can be given after certain duration?

All of my feed is now filled with layoff posts from ex faang employees. The same feed was filled with posts showing off joining gift last year. What is happening. Why is it happening. Who is responsible for this. I am totally not sure. Will there be a 2008 like crash, this time because of overhyped tech sector ?

From the last few days there were talks going on about layoffs in Morgan Stanley. Some 7% of the global staff will be handed over the pink slip in this week. Well... It started happening from today ... Few colleagues from my department were laid, and the reason being "company is trying to survive in the market, company is planning the road ahead by taking such bold steps". When this was announced, my anxiety shot up the next level and I couldn't wait for the meeting to finish. The past few years have not been great for the business worldwide due to which many companies are forced to take such steps. These companies just have been doing a hiring spree from the last 1-2 years that now they are regretting their decisions and letting off their employees. My question is - "If a company hires excessively during the bull market and is forced to lay off few of the employees during the downturn, has the company made an error by not evaluating the headcount or it was just simply the need of the hour" Please note - I know many people out there who have faced job cuts due to many factors, sincerely requesting people to take this matter very seriously

I am really curious why there are so many layoffs in the IT industry. Wherever you see, big companies like CISCO are laying off so many employees. Experts on Grapevine, please explain what is going on.
