This works only if your superiors are actual leaders and not a**holes. I was an indispensable worker like this when I got my first job. Worked my ass of for 3 years, no questions asked.
The result: I always ended up getting more work, passed on for promotion, passed on for onsite opportunity, passed on for hikes. A new joiner ended up getting onsite opportunity because he bootlicked the managers.
This is a great piece of advice but unfortunately it only works when your superiors genuinely want to see you succeed. Else you'll be taken advantage of.
