Chief of Staff / Founders' Office / Strategy

Hey folks! A lot of people have been asking me on LinkedIn about how to get into strategy / founders' office roles. I'm in that role but I had never 'tried-tried' for it so I'm also not aware of the landscape really.

Would love to hear from other folks here who are in this role to get a better idea of what you do at your orgs! What does your day to day work look like? What was your prior experience? How did you get into this role? etc.

Here is what it is like : One or 2 big projects you will be working on for 3-6 months which will require cross functional teams. You will sort of act as a project manager by bringing in teams together and provide regular updates to your boss about the progress . Now coming to the frustrating part : Each day, apart from this you will have to handle issues that arrive in normal operations of the company, which will be brought to your boss’s attention and guess who gathers all the nitty gritties of the issue and briefs the boss - you. These issues could be due to external or internal factors but it has to be resolved in a short time frame. That issue will be the priority for the day. So you continue doing this for each day and realise an year has already passed 😂.

Perfectly sums up my role. In addition to this, I also keep a close eye on money coming in & going out; adherence to all legal compliances and finalising deals and signing off the contracts.
