Confused. Need advice urgently.
So I'm an intern at this bootstrapped startup which is doing really good (touchwood). Three months into my joining, everything was hunky dory but lately my manager has turned less friendly.
She points out little mistakes, asked me to create reports on things that went wrong, uses aggressive language on common slack channels. I'm really not sure what I've done to **** her off.
Yes I did make a couple of mistakes here and there but I put in my 100% effort to see them fixed and talk to her nicely and respectfully. I'm lost. I also think if this will hurt my PPO chances :( I want to know if this is okay and me working extra hard will solve this or should i do something else about this?
Just focus on ensuring you're driving outcomes that are your responsibility.
Nothing else matters.
Also, have a coffee conversation with her 1x1. You should ask her (nicely) on her feedback on what you are doing right, where can you improve, how can your role help her more. This ensures any minor niggles she may be having come out and are addressed.
We do have biweekly catch up and in one of them, she let me know that there'll never be anything personal behind her feedback. It'll always be work related.
According to my responsibilities, I'm doing 90% things just right. There are rough patches here and there but i genuinely think it's because i lack experience with the product and the industry since it's only been around 4-5 months.
However, the thing which bugs me majorly is that this behaviour has really increased since a couple of months. I sometimes think it's because my work is more visible now but I'm not sure.
In the next catch up ask her how can your role and work help her. Make the conversation about her - the response will probably tell you what she is looking for.
It's by no measure a lost cause - my sense is it's just a bump in the road, probably also because she is falling behind on her deliverables. Figure out if that is the case and if other people in the team are also bearing the brunt.
