What's the next step?
Got a data science internship in a mid size indian startup and working on some projects from scratch. Currently I know ML, Python, MYSQL, data analytics, django(basic) What will be the next things I have to learn with internship and how can I see my career progress in data science domain??
Data engineer is not the same as data science. Data science in most companies is simply about writing SQL queries and not about AI/ML. Let's not sell false dreams. Competence hierarchies matter in the long term and taking the AI/ML career path for most people with an undergrad degree is a dead end. People who just write SQL queries hate their jobs and is certainly not exciting in the long term.

I am aware of what you want to say. Right now, in most of companies the main work is of creating synthetic datasets using the SQL queries and build a logic(statistical or mathematical) over it to retrieve/ build things no need of AI/ML.
That's why I am asking how I have to shape things for profile like data engineer/ will it be good to move in it and what stack knowledge will be need to go with it.
What u are talking about is the job of a data analyst which isn't exciting
I am a de and i work upon Kafka,snowflake,databricks,spark and i work closely with data Scientist who primarily work upon.building ml models, that's why i was telling my perception
R u in de/ds field ?
If not ,then i don't think u are the right person to give advise

Don't aim for a career in data science unless you have a masters from a reputed institute in Computer Science or you are an exceptional undergrad. Go for a software developer role.
There are a lot of data openings ranging from de/ds
Why discouraging someone ?
And de work is similar to that of backend so easily shift to backend roles

Hmm, i get Google guy's concern. But the think is what you gonna learn in masters or PhD that you can't learn while working. In data science or AI what I observe there are 2 types of people who build algos solve complex black box problems. Other are who try to build solution for end consumers from those black boxes. Both people are doing great and helping each other and share same role and salaries also.
Baaki after getting into a company like Google you actually able to see how and where things are moving really. Because they are busy in building future and cutting edge things where as other companies still solving their database structuring problems.

As far as I connect the dots, DS is a dying role. Scientists didn't meet the workforce expectations. They are being sent back to academia for playing with statistics.
DE and MLE solve real world problems.
I am preparing to enter DE and would also like to connect with you all for new perspectives.
