Requesting line of thoughts/how-tos on a product I'm building, based on 3D Printing. Anyone working on mapping an object in 3D -> 3D Printing the mapped object? Open to hire such people
Hi I am not an expert but by mapping did you mean scan physical object and 3d print it?
If you want to map an object you have 3d scanning tools like white light and blue light scanners, after which using a software called geomagic it is converted to CAD if you want to edit it or directly to STL format for 3d printing.

Hmmm. 3d printing uses a file called stl. It's made up of triangles and it has a direction vector. From what I remember the direction will be towards the outside of the body.
So if you have a scanned object it needs to be converted to stl.

Leaks.
A valid stl file which can be used for printing only if there's no leakage

I have worked with similar application. The choice of process depends upon your end goal. Is it a 1:1 detailed replica or just contour extraction?
