Does it make sense to switch from Data Science to SDE?

I have been working at a financial company for last 8 months (my first job out of college). I don't like the work and contemplating switching to SDE roles.

Does it make sense to switch to SDE? Also is career growth and compensation generally higher for SDEs?

Yes. Try doing it within your Current company and then move out. Directly switching might not be that easy in curren market

Yes .. data science is a specialised role that is important only in large companies who have large amounts of data . But SDE is basic field which is required by most tech companies so has more jobs and higher growth. Shifting early in your career might be good.
