Loss making startup

Might be a good bet to filter out the ones with good culture, and apply there if you want a somewhat safe but growing career. Does anybody know startups here with good culture?

1 year back all startups were losing money like crazy while all of a sudden everyone from Swiggy to Meesho to Unacademy are profitable or EBITDA positive. Other companies which were profitable earlier have not shown a spike in profit. Were these companies uselessly burning money earlier if they can just suddenly become profitable in 6-8 months

VC funding based on revenue multiples and profit (😂😂😂) multiples is soon going to be obsolete. Common sense says company's valuation should be summation of yearly profits it can generate till the company exists... So if reliance has profit of 8 billion $ , market estimates that it's valuation should be around 25x multiple of its profit that is to say that if reliance keeps on generating same amount of profit for year on year, it will not exist after 25 years. Now tell me, what shelf live does these VC funded startup have? I honestly don't see all these tom dick and Harry mobile based and web based startups existing by end of this decade thanks to AI revolution. People are still oblivion to what AI will do to white collar jobs Just out of curiosity, is there any single VC funded Indian startup in last 10-15 years which is immensely profitable ? Or for that matter any global giants like Amazon, Uber, Airbnb etc. which has turned profitable in Indian territory?

Just an intersting data point. There are about 400 odd startups who raised at least 50m since 2010. Less than 20% are profitable.

Few months ago, mama earth CEO compared it's losses with Amazon saying, "Amazon too made losses". Now Firstcry is IPO bound with their losses being 6x in 2023 and also justifoed it. Amazon made a loss Because they invested all their profits into R&D Most startups are making a loss because they are selling products at a discount to show high GMV Both are not same... I am yet to see a single big success story in India startup ecosystem which justifies 'India has arrived' and so much VC's exuberance .

Looks like Zomato is at it again - quarterly layoffs (pun intended). Have come to know from a current employee that they are firing people with great skill set and work only because they are at a higher CTC and are replacing older folks with new freshers at a lower pay. Zomato never fails to surprise.
