Experience working with a YC company ( Indian Founders )
One of the founders come from a very big tech giant. And both of the founders were IITians (might be a signal for you what not to look for when choosing a company)
It has been the worst experience of my life in all honesty.
In interviews I was told I have to work for 50 hours a week which I agreed to do. But later I was told to work for 80 hours a week with no Saturdays and Sundays. Ironically the company had unlimited vacations but no weekends off.
I was promised to get a compensation raise after 3 months (which never happened) since I was not happy with my compensation. Initially I agreed to a number in interviews but when the weekly work hours raised from 50 to 80 I asked for a higher number for which they increased my compensation with 5k USD and promised to revise my compensation in next 3 months which never happened.
The founders were also very upset when I asked for a higher number, they were like how can you ask for higher compensation after agreeing to a number. But how was it fair to increase working hours from 50 to 80.
The founders were also inhuman and don’t know how to talk with employees (typical American Indian founders). If a company is not willing to give you any days off for a pay of less than 10 USD an hour what anyone can expect from them? I believe even sub Saharan bonded labours in British colonial era would have more lenient masters than these wannabe founders.
Additionally they also promised me 0.1% equity for which I never got any documents. I just do not understand how can a founder expect their employees to work same hours and with same intensity as of a founder, when there is a substantial difference in salaries and equity.

Way to go! Comparing your situation to that of bonded labourers!

Just sharing some thoughts: Working at a startup was never a thing to be proud of in older generations. It's the VC's who created these narratives that working in startup is cool and you'll work on things that makes an impact. But in reality most startups don't know what they are doing. In that process, they really fuck up with employees. Just imagine a well funded startup is always after growth and a less funded ones are after profitability. All just to survive. If you would have chosen a boring company like older banks and other old established businesses you wouldn't be miserable all the time. Yes they are not exciting but atleast there will be some stability. And even government jobs for that matter are trying to have better culture. Coal India has a good place to work tag now.

Never agree to any companies offer where they specify that you will be entitled to a hike in next 3-6months of joining.
I myself have suffered something similar.
Most of these conditions are given to lure the candidate by giving them a lollipop. But the lollipop is never given in the stipulated period stating any stupid reason.
Naming and shaming must be done for obvious reasons and this malpractice must be highlighted.

I have faced the similar kind of experience in my past company. Where the owner only sees profit. They launch software and made 4x revenue. Every time they ignore employees. Before you complete one year in company they make sure either you resign or they will fire you by giving random excuses. Even after doing this much when firing make sure they will cut half of your salary as well.
You are a developer. You will get a job for the 15-25 days period. If you are very good at coding they take only 1 week to get another job

Yuck. This is super bad
