@catgotnojob there is a reason why cut off dates are there, since you didn’t get bonus as you joined 20 days late, the same logic can be applied by someone who is 22 days lates, some by 30 days. Where do one stop how late is acceptable, there is not right or wrong answer, hence the cut off date
I would have accepted and resigned to my fate if the cut-off dates were made clear when I joined. I wonder why recruiters (the ones I've come across so far in my career) dont talk about it. It also is a lesson for me to scrutinize the whole appraisal cycle and bonus payout mechanism before signing up with an organisation
indeed if you have 2-3 better offers in hand!
I really like my job here as it helped me to learn a lot of new stuff. However no offers as of now, will need to put myself out there and get a few in the next weeks
thats when u move mate.
till then, do moderate work!
Were you promised a bonus?
If yes, then who told you that - HR and Manager both should be aligned. HR told you that then unless it is in written they can go back on their words - don't leave if you have a good manager and work is great. If manager told you that then it's must be his way to get most out of you - probably leave in that case.
If no, did you mention that to HR or manager ever? Did you ever try to set expectations with them? If not, then it is neither manager nor HR fault. For HRs to provide someone bonus who doesn't fit eligibility criteria require special approvals - which can't be received at the end of cycle without proper heads up. In that case, focus on future - this bonus no one was expecting to give you. You are arrogantly believing that you deserve it.
Hope this clarifies and gives you a perspective of how to handle things next time
My 1st point didn't come as clearly - my point being if HR has gone back on their word - take it as a learning that get things in writing and keep following up to ensure what you want
The statement where you say I'm arrogantly believing i deserve it is a bit idiotic tbh, dont you think? Would you talk in the same way if we were face to face? Is a bonus promised on paper? No, not even in the offer letter. Is everyone around me is getting it? Yes. Is the cut-off date mentioned anywhere including the contract/HR portal FAQs? Nope (I checked with my employee experience spoc) Is it a PERFORMANCE BASED bonus, yes! I think thats what my rant is about, good performance but no money to show for it. Did I ever set expectations with the HR, ofcourse. A bonus was promised to me while joining saying it'll be dependent upon my performance but no one warned me about the cut-off date even though they knew about my date of joining.
Since this is a grey area not documented well enough in the organisation, it only came to my attention during the end of cycle when I noticed people started talking about it. Your comment is based on too many assumptions that you have taken from the ops of your organisation, please come closer to the reality and unleash your gyan when you fully understand the conext. Jeez 🤡
I missed a cut-off by just 3 days and didn't stand a chance for bonus. There's a reason why cutoffs are kept. You can always ask for a prorated bonus in your next appraisal. If you leave the company now then your months of hardwork goes waste as well, IMO.
Agreed, one of the reasons i dont want to jump ships immediately is that I may face the same scenario in my next organisation if I dont get the timing right. Good idea, thanks I'll keep it in mind
