Free food = Excellent work life balance!
Yeah, that's what I heard. Sorry, I witnessed. I personally don't have any beef with that company but the company used to preach work-life balance in the following way:
-
Free breakfast, lunch and dinner: Ideally, the company expected people to come to the office by 9 am and leave by 8-9 pm. While asked about 10-12 hours of regular work, the CEO mentioned, 'You guys have nothing to worry about. You get food here for free and then after going home there's no extra step for cooking.'
-
Unlimited leaves: Absolutely a myth! I saw one applied for a leave of 3 days to take a break after working continuously for 4.5 months. He attended an interrogation chamber and ended up withdrawing his leave applications. I can't even!
-
Remote working at needs: A colleague applied for remote working for a week as he was supposed to travel his hometown due to the demise of his grandfather. The CEO asked him, 'Which one is more important to you, your job Or traveling for someone who's no more?' That audacity!
-
Strong motivation: This happened to a fresher when she was the first week of her. She was being called an idiot and stupid person on the floor as she did a small spellinh mistake on a post that wasn't even live on social platforms. Later the manager explained, 'Oh, I was just trying to motivate her!' I wish I had that much of confidence to justify any wrong deed with utmost heroism.
Another fantastic concept that I faced in this company was when I applied for a 2-day leave as I wanted to travel home due to the election. Yeah, many people might say that it's not necessary or mandatory but boarding a flight on Sunday evening and coming back on Tuesday evening when no such important project was on going, is never OTT. The CEO asked me, 'How would your voting help our company to grow? Casting your vote won't bring anything on the table. ' I was amazed to see how incredibly he tried to deny my voting rights. I took the leave. Landed Bangalore on Tuesday evening and logged in from the office at around 6 pm. Came back home at 11 pm that day but yeah, they gave me FREE FOOD!
PS: This office is near Sony Signal! 😜

I think this might be a company run by an older generation who is trying to understand the current market trend for employability and thinks that providing free food and on paper benefits which never would be practiced is what people define as work life balance. Probably best that you left (I assume you did) and it would be helpful if you could name these kinds of orgs so that people can be aware of what they are getting into.

Hahaha what a fun thread @Salty_pookie Interestingly, I was super intrigued to consider them a few years back, even sent a cold DM to the founder. Never heard back :( Bullet dodged I guess haha
All the best with what you do next !

The CEO is a machine, if not less. I remember, I used to attend stand-ups at 8 ish in the morning, reached office by 9-9.30. Stayed there till 7 pm. Used to come back home and worked till 10-11 pm..

Come on don't leave us hanging, name and shame such companies
