Need suggestion. I have 10.5 years of experience. Recently h1 got picked through a consultancy. Interested move to the US. What's your opinion/thoughts/suggestion? Note: currently monthly income from the whole family (me and wife (9.5 exp) is 3.2 lakhs after all taxes) . We save around 1.7 lakhs monthly after all the monthly expenses. I have one kid(3 years daughter). My tech stack is Python, SQL, Pyspark, Azure Data engineering, Lakehouse Architecture.... started a second language as Java currently(interested to learn Rust).

Congratulations! Few challenges you’ll need to think about:

  • Does your partner have H1 as well? If not, you might be looking at living with 1 income till they get the visa. Which might take a few years.
  • Consultancies can take 20% of your monthly pay check, so you’ll have to figure if that’s worth it.
  • Many consultancies don’t give you leaves or health insurance. Something to consider if there are ongoing health concerns.

But if these are not big issues, you will be able to work for 6 years at least, in the long term you can definitely figure things out.

I was considering a similar option but decided not to go for personal reasons. So my 2 cents - go for it. If you are unhappy there you can always return, no big deal. But getting the H1 is rare. So try it out.

Can you tell me what is chance of success after one gets selected via lottery?

Can we be rejected after lottery is successful as well? What are the chances?

Think about lifestyle. You won't have the support sustenance you get in India. Life is easier in many ways, but harder otherwise.

Try to estimate whether, after expenses you will actually danger divinity more money than if you stay in India.

Also, you will be bringing up your child in the US. So she will grow up with those values. Will you be OK with that?
