If you do well in growth/strategy roles, you have a clear career trajectory for a P&L owner —> CXO role in a bigger/mature company, so the upside is tremendous. But that is provided you do well. If you feel your strength is more technical (in analytics), then you should stick to it as you would enjoy getting better at it and become an expert. You get big bucks for expertise.
Everyone will need a top tier analytics guy with experience. But for many, Strategy roles go to MBB background folks or Tier 1 college folks already in Strategy. So finding roles eventually could be a challenge.
All depends on who you are, what you've done and which company you're looking at
