How to not feel bad when colleagues make more money ?

One of my colleagues makes more money than me and also some other folks in the company. He's kind of a junior to us but making more than us.

I know I shouldn't get bothered about this but it's easier to say than adopt that thinking.

How do you folks deal with these kinds of things?

[ Before someone says he might be good at the job I am working with them so I know he's pretty average. ]

Don't get ok with it. Negotiate your salary by quoting the market rate of your company.

Comparison is the thief of joy. Having said that it is indeed irksome when someone who is contributing on the same level as you takes home way more than you. I have faced this and discussed with the manager during appraisal that I'm underpaid in the organisation and within the team. It did not work so I should either switch or come to terms that some people will always be paid more than me , but that does not mean they deserve it. They just got lucky.

How would you feel if you found out a senior employee was making lesser than you?

You might feel sorry for him in your mind of a bit of joy that you're achieving more in career with comparison to him/her. Whatever the possibility might be, you'll not go to HR to do anything about it. Maximum you can do is advise him to switch and looks for opportunities outside that offer more as per the experience and skills. I advise you the same.
