Huge Dilemma

Working as a tech con at EY , fresher , MA Economics passout , currently they have assigned me a data engineering role , I am not able to understand anything about that thing. But still the team has huge expectations from me. Team change is not possible before a year. Now, should I switch or what. It's becoming very toxic and stressful for me. My mental health is really bad. Please suggest guys. 2 months into EY , joined in July

I am a Senior Consultant as a Lead Data Engineer for “AI & Data” team of EY GDS Tech Consulting. And I am here for last 2 years with 2 consecutive SI ratings. I am eligible to talk here.

DE role is not perfect if you know what to do and where to do. If you are not familiar then life will be really stressful. A good Data Engineer also face trouble initially when he/she joins a new project (coz what and where is unknown).

If you don’t have any aspiration on this domain, please leave asap. I am not underestimating your capability but I know your life will be like hell here. Please find some other aspiration first, work hardly on it parallel (coz your team will have less expectations from you on initial days). Try to switch asap, if not team then change organisation.

Otherwise neither you will be able to grow technically, nor you will be able to manage your daily life personal problems.

Thanks for a detailed response. I totally second what you have said. I don't have any experience of any programming language. Just started learning SQL basics. And they want me to do so much related to this. Cant do this. Will try to switch as soon as I get any other opportunity.
