Her disqualification owing 100 gm overweight is pending for review in Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), seeking a joint silver medal.

Delay from Indian end

• The court observed that such a scenario where they want intervention, they should have immediately reached out to Olympics committee and requested postponing of the final bout.
• Indian staff and IOA were quick to update condolences on Twitter, but didn't seek redressal.
• It happened a day late, when final had already been fixed with the semifinalist who lost to Vinesh.
• The grievance seeked was not fight, but joint silver medal for Vinesh

Court's response

• The panel sympathises with Vinesh on human level
• They have ordered changes to be made to the weigh in rule, as they agreed 100gm could be water weight/bloating
• They also commented that rules cannot be changed, but will consider if provisions allow
• The appeal was made on 8 Aug 2024 (after the final happened), case was to be heard on 9 Aug. They deferred the verdict to 11 Aug (closing day of Olympics), again deferred to 13 Aug 6 pm (today) and now stretched to 16 Aug.
• There has been too much media attention on the case, they cannot go wrong here.
