I have decided to reject Meta London offer
Offer : E4 175k pounds Current: L4 56 Lakhs YoE: 1 year 7 months
Here's what I have considered:
-
Living in London is going to be costly, on an avg I'll be saving 1.2x of India.
-
Meta London created a bad reputation for itself when last year it laid off people from India just 2 days after joining
-
it's not worth it going from L4 to E4, I probably should switch only when getting a higher level or a big big pay bump (this is probably not a big pay bump considering the cost of living)
-
I am not very good at making friends, and I have quite some friends here now... I don't just want to leave everything and be alone in a new city so far away from home.
-
the only pro point I see is that.. it is London.
Do you think I should reconsider my decision?

Dude, take risk. I know staying in Google looks like safety net but You might not be able to do adventures stuff later in life. Moving to a new country, new food, new culture. You WILL meet new people. Those things can’t be bought.

Bhai vo Google se bhi ja sakta hai dusre desh

Google & safety @Sulphur 🤣🤣
Google layoffs are random & where as Amazon layoffs are based on performance & politics. You can survive the Amazon wave longer than Google. Also, After L7 things are not such risky at Amazon, at G even L9 gets laidoff.

London except zone 1 is a full of hateful towards Indian Hindus especially run by a certain group. Unless London Mayor changes to a different ethnicity nothing will change. Cambridge is far better than London in every aspect.
You’ll be safer in a Jungle in India rather than a Hindu outside Zone1.

Looks fake. Google will never give L4 to 1 YOE lol, it's the company that is notorious for downleveling people. Only PhDs start at L4, not even M.S !

haha, brother 4 Noograds from my batch were promoted to L4 in 1.3 years. You just need business impact and a good team ;)

Good for you then. As for your initial question, maybe consider Meta as the pace of growth there is faster than Google , even if initial savings is less.

Solid decision 175k is a good offer imo. Grass will always be greener on the other side. Friends and family are not replaceable. Plus London isn’t exactly SF Bay Area where you will find the greatest tech folks, I would argue it’s in the same league as BLR.
Your savings number seem off though. If tax/living expenses in London are similar to the Bay Area you should be able to 60/70k pounds.

If you have decided to reject, is this post about validation or getting an ego massage? I dont see any learning from your post which can help the community

pls I do not need validation from random strangers on the internet... Respectfully I just wanted to hear other people's opinions.
And how can it be "ego massage"... There are thousands of other people with a better TC

How have you computed savings at 1.2x? 105 vs 37? Or overall? Any calculations worth sharing?
Meta seems more future agnostic than Google at the moment with AI based search disruption risk to traditional cash cow business model: Google Ads

Watched a lot of YT videos, and asked on Blind.
Also, to me Meta does not seem that future agnostic, Meta also relies heavily on Ads... Imagine Android doing what Apple did (stop sharing usage information with Instagram). AFAIK Meta is more reliant on Ads than Google is, and it will take just one EU law to distrupt everything
