Ideal CTC for 5-6 years experience?

Hi fellow designers, I am a brand & graphic designer who worked at a smaller design studio for the last 5 years or so. I am now looking to join an in-house brand team in a big start-up/corporate. In my previous company, since it was a smaller design studio, I was getting paid less compared to what startups and corporates pay their designers.

Will my previous lower-than-market-rate-salary affect my ability to get a good CTC now? What is a good CTC expectation for a senior brand & graphic designer with 5-6 years of good work experience?

Your past salary is history, my friend. Demand what your talent deserves. 20LPA to 30LPA seems fair. Now, what's your dream company?

Companies that value design - Google, Apple, Pinterest, Airbnb etc. Many companies that I've thought were great to work at are said to have poor work culture though. So any company that has sensible leaders, values design, has decent culture and values people's work life balance (most of the time) is a good company to work at IMO.

Your past salary is your past's problem. Demand what you're worth now. Aim for 30-40LPA. Don't sell yourself short.

Thanks for the response, friend.

Absolutely not. Your portfolio and ability decides what you can demand in your next role. And if a company does say “x amount seems unreasonable” while also praising your work, they are just trying to low-ball you. Don’t settle for that.
