If you can, skip working for an Indian manager

I am working at an European company. Previously my manager was non Indian. Some re org happened, and I got an Indian manager.

Man, I cannot tell you how many times I thought of resigning in the last 3 months. I think it’s in the genes.

For instance, I informed that I would be on leave on 26th dec, given that 23, 24 are sat and sun and 25 is Christmas.

They asked me if I can be on on call till 25th, as I’m only on leave on 26th

Like wtf, who thinks this way!!

You have not seen the worst. Indian founder, Indian manager (The same Founder micro-managing), Indian clients
You feel like you are in the mines of Africa 😅

This is very common in India. If the company pays your X amount, the manager makes it his personal mission to extract 3-4x of that amount from you.

Wait till you join an Indian startup, then you will see LaLa culture as well. In which you will work on whatever random project the founder/manager wants you to work without keeping in mind your best interests and also random policy changes

I totally relate to this. Worked in 3 companies in my life. 4 managers were Indian, one was American. The respect with which the American treated me was unbelievable. Infact the way the foreigner treated me was the reason I happily worked more to deliver before deadlines. I never changed my job even though I was paid lower I could have easily got better pay if I had changed jobs. Never did. When I left to manage my business I told him the truth and he was genuinely happy that I was starting on my own. He offered me a part time role so that I can stabilize, the local Indian HR didn't allow it stating "Indian law".

I feel the same thing, more so with women managers than male managers. The abysmal quality of 3 managers and 1 woman colleague I had made my life hell to the point I wanted to stop working entirely! Don't know why is that.

Ahhh, also went through the same phase, but remember, don't give up on your hardwork, your career for these bastards !
Show them the hell, don't take any feedback, just ignore all their toxicity and focus on personal growth...

It’s top down. Managers are treated the same way by their managers.
