Indian recruiters are a different species
Just got a call from a recruiter and when I told her that I have 9 years of Product Design experience, her response was: “But figma launched only 7 years ago, how can you have 9 years of Product Design experience?”. . . Blocked her
Expecting HR to know more than this is a crime. One appreciate her that she tries to find out such info.
Interesting. This situation is similar to someone assuming that all chefs learned to cook only after a specific popular cooking show aired. Just because the cooking show (or in this case, Figma) became mainstream recently, it doesn’t mean that people hadn’t been cooking or designing in other ways before it.
I see no point in blocking her honestly. All it would've taken you is to say I was using other tools before that. People aren't dumb.
But hey, you do you
It starts with small things like this. I want mental peace in my professional and personal life. And, some people do be dumb.
I hate them all. The ones in tech are especially more annoying.
Oh you don't have exactly n years of experience in microservices? Rejected!
You’re barking up the wrong wall. Work with recruiters instead of holding a standoff with them. Hiring managers are a bigger blocker than HRs.
When you’ve spent years mastering a craft, it’s jarring to be met with questions that miss the point entirely. Imagine asking a chef who’s been cooking for a decade if they know how to scramble an egg. So, when a recruiter questions your nine years of design experience because “Figma launched only seven years ago,” it feels like they’re reducing your entire journey to a single tool. Design isn’t just software; it’s insight, empathy, and countless hours refining your craft—a story far deeper than any one app or platform can define.
While I understand your frustration, sometimes you need to stay humble. Remember, the organisation will find a hundred designers who are like you or better than you. So blocking her will hamper you and not them.
Koi nhi yaar thoda kam kama lenge par dimaag, zindagi aur health ki maa behen karwa ke 4 paise zyada kamane ka kya fayda. :)
