Is it worth working so hard??
I have a Remote offer with a company called EventBrite, which is paying well as well. And another offer from Indian unicorn startup (Glassdoor has terrible reviews on work life balance). Should I just accept a remote job roam around India. Do a lot of Staycations, meet a pretty girl. Or take the Unicon start-up with a good brand, hoping that two years later, Amazon or Google or Microsoft would reach out to me.
Lot of wrong things here I feel -
- If you expect you will meet pretty girl when you have staycations, it may not happen. Don't roam around to get a girl. Roam because you wanna explore the place and you enjoy travelling.
- If you like the role you are getting at remote job, don't wanna go to office setup, why not do it?
- Why place FAANG as pedestal? I understand it's a brand, but it's nothing more than that. I would suggest don't be desperate to go there, they would sense it and even if you make it there, they will try to downplay you and give you a low ball offer(they are very famous for that!)
I am not sure if i like or not. I always believed java is the way to go. I come from Java Na and. I could get a lot of interview calls this time. Most of my interviewers did drill me in java.
This role is for python+django.
Also whats running in my mind is. Not many know in india about eventbrite. Will that effect my future job switches.
Maybe i am overthinking too much. But i feel like i didn’t do much crazy learning in last 5 years of my career and i need to get everything right this time. Phew
Crazy learning doesn't happen at FAANG. People focus on promotions there more than doing Engineering work. Again, I could be wrong. But, I can assure you, if you want tech/coding to be the thing you wanna learn, you cannot go wrong with early stage startups. It's the best to be
Take Eventbrite. Nothing here will match the flexibility of it. And reading your post tells me you want to take it easy on life now. Nothing bad in wanting that.
