My pathetic experience working for years closely with CXO in a startup
I worked in an Indian startup closely with CXO for last few years.
They are pathetic in any way possible. Tech is limited to crud, that too doesn't work. The pay amongst their inner circle is in no way justifiable. For reference, I know people getting US pay remotely and that too doesn't come close to some of them.
They hired a guy from a service based company with completely different tech stack and no product experience for 60lpa+ (I know this number because he drunk boasted about this once) as VP just because he was acquaintance. Now, this guy lacked basic human decency and tech skills. He didn't know things as basic as how to use git cli or how to talk to people. Every non-tech person that ever had to work with him called it quit. Even 4-5 year old employees (juniors being exploited mostly) that were there from inspection. He would ruthlessly "harass" them for his own shortcomings.
The head of sales gets paid more than what their profit after margin is.
They just keep on raising based on their IIT/IIM creds and connections and there's no business or problem that they are solving. Even the contracts they seem to winning is rather by pulling the strings, because the product or tech doesn't solve or do anything. Yet they're able to raise more again and again.
It kinda kills me and fills me with so much rage that there are so many of them similar ones out there. I could go on and on about all the things that I had to see working here for years.

Name and shame.

Exactly! Name and shame man. If not, at least give us hints. We know you worked closely and can be doxxed. But c'mon something to get the juices flowing at least

CBO is an ex-VC in tier 1 firm. Idk how it works but don't want to risk my future chances in startups they've dipped their toes in.

VP at 60lpa comp is way cheaper. May be the reason why they compromised on candidate quality to get it cheaper.

if it includes ESOP then way too cheaper

Makes sense but in an unprofitable startup wouldn't such posts be more ESOP heavy than cash heavy?

This is why I started my own startup. Tired of seeing idiots coming up with bad businesses and bad culture.
Regular folks can do much better than so called IIT IIM grads. Heard this one IIM grad who was a new PM at a famous startup, didn't know the difference between percentage and percentile.
More than the knowledge, these people don't even have basic ethics or common sense. I always encourage more people to startup and give these idiots some competition.

Was a vp/svp in an unprofitable soonicorn (ceo-1 role).
60lpa is not much for vp level unless there are 20+ vps in early stage startup (title inflation). Expected cash is 80-200 lpa. Esops on top

Yes ik it isn't much but there's a difference between a soonicorn and an unknown startup.
Point isn't VPs comp here lol but how they are operating and toxic environment

Oh man. I so much want this job. How to become an inner circle.

+1

For real. 60lpa is too little? I need to get in on these kinds of jobs

IIM wale gassy people all around. Not all are bad but yeah majority are just bloated *ucks.

This is bein unreasonable. Job of a cxo is to setup policies and set the direction of the firm. The job of a vo or direct reportees to a cxo is to implement the policies. One should not expect them to know coding or tech stuff. Technical stuff ends at functional level.
Imagine you hire an electrician to change wiring at your house. You expect that guy to know stuff. That guy can't complain you don't know anything about electrical stuff. You will complain if that guy doesn't do the job properly.
Same way you are hired to do code. They hired you because they don't know.
This is a problem is see across startup to small companies. Or any flat organisation. Everybody wants the other man's job. People always try to do beyond their role.

Bhai, you should give the name so that others can stay away from shitty companies like this. No one's getting anything out of your experience if we don't know where it's from. Hope you can help out others that way brother ā¤ļø

Can you DM which company u talking as it sounds familiar to one of my past company.??

This sounds like so many companies. But you really had me at The head of sales gets paid more than what their profit after margin is. š
