Notice period

I had given my resignation from my position and was told my last working day will be the next day itself. I had told the HR that I'm ready to serve entire notice period of 2 months but requested them to reduce my notice period as there wasn't much dependency on me. I was hoping the notice period will be for atleast 1 month but they had me leave the next day itself. When they told me next day will be my last day I had told them I'm ready to serve 2 months of notice period but still they let me go the next day. Is it proper or am I missing anything ?

Interesting. I had heard of such cases, but usually it used to happen with both sides’ consent. Looks like you didn’t had good rapport with your managers and they thought to took it up against you, Obviously it is not proper, this should have happened only if both the sides agreed to it. You can fight it legally I guess, but would you like to get into all that… and you could have mailed them that day itself, probably they would have corrected it had you written officially by email, but not sure why you didn’t oppose it at that time. Now what can you do, taking the legal recourse without any written communications from your side, how well that will stand, I am doubtful.

I had informed the HR immediately as I got to know my last day would be the next day.

Informed how? By email? If yes, then you should certainly follow it up legally and make them pay 2 months’ salary.

Be grateful, and enjoy your time off

Perhaps join your new employer earlier if that’s something you’d like, or get an internship pre B school

Idk what role you're working in..but at my first role in sales I knew it wasn't working out. I had a two months notice period as well... but it made no sense to make me stay after I served resignation. Was able to leave with my stuff that very day.

But I told them if there isn't much dependency then release me early, so they released me next day itself. As soon as I came to know they want to let me go the next day, I said fine I'll serve 2 months complete notice. Still they went ahead with the next day.
