Notice period in HCL
How long is the notice period in HCL? Can anyone share the band-wise notice period? Also, is it negotiable?
Notice period in HCL is 90 days. And for all employees, the notice period is the same. When i was at HCL i needed an early release. Luckily, I had an understanding manager and she reduced my notice period. I also had my earned leaves, so I utilised them as well and reduced my notice period to 60 days.
Notice period in HCL is 90 days, which is the same for all employees, irrespective of their job roles and positions in the company. Also, you can negotiate the notice period and reduce it by days or weeks but that varies from manager to manager and if you’re in luck. If you don’t serve the notice period, you will have the option of buy out where you have to pay a portion of your salary to get out of the company.
I can offer some ideas about the Notice period in HCL as I used to work there. The notification duration typically varies according to the band level. While lower roles could need 30 to 60 days, most mid- to senior-level roles require about 90 days. In general, negotiating is difficult, particularly for important positions. I had difficulties when trying to reduce my notice time because permissions are subject to multiple levels and are often only given in extreme cases. Since the 90-day term is strict, it may be relaxed with a strong corporate case and top management clearance, so it's important to plan your next steps well in advance.
During my time at HCL, the notice period in HCL was a common topic of interest among colleagues, especially when considering internal changes or external offers. Generally, for lower bands (E0 to E3), the notice period was about 30 days, while for middle bands (E4 to E5), it stretched to 60 days. Senior bands like E6 and above typically require a 90-day notice. The ability to negotiate often depended on the role and the project’s criticality. I noticed that if you’re transitioning within HCL, managers may ease the notice period, but for external exits, flexibility is limited. However, I heard of cases where team position and manager approval helped reduce it by a week or two.
