Offer advice for Google L3

I am an SDE 2 at Oracle with 2.5 years experience, and my CTC is around 38LPA (cash + stock) I recently got offered an L3 position in Google with a CTC of around 40LPA (cash+stock+bonus), but I am a little sceptical about the compensation.

The cash component is increasing ~30%, but the stock component would decrease by 20%. I am not sure if taking this offer is a good decision. Please provide suggestions regarding this. Would be very helpful!

Firstly congratulations on the offer

On decrease in stock, see you’re not going to make life changing money from Google stock (according to me)

On the overall offer, i am sure you at least were expecting a 15-20% bump.
Press the recruiter to give a more package: if you have made it this far, that is a whole process in itself, some leeway should be there

If nothing happens, Google is still a great place to shift to and then figure

I did try negotiating a lot , they are quite fixed on what they want to offer and are not ready to consider my current package. I guess it's around a 11% bump when I was expecting atleast a 20% bump

I would say see on the overall comp hike, and the way I see it it's not great. Better let it go also with a lot of GCCs offering competitive pkg in India , Google hasn't been able to attract a lot of good candidates from with good credentials anymore. The peer group here is either the ones who have stayed since long and are here cos they are loaded and the ones coming from companies like WITCH as those are the ones who find the comp very attractive.

My opinion is don't take it.. while the offer is not bad for an L3 position, you can have more upward potential in your current role.. if you join at L3, you would take about 1.5 - 2 years to get promoted to L4(sde 2 equivalent)

Consider post tax hike only. Add relocation+ rental expenses (if any).

If you have pretty good wlb currently, don't switch

Please don’t join they are lowballing you to SDE 1 position plus expect another 1.5 years to get back to SDE 2
Don’t fall for the name
Plus learning is very slow there
Instead target startups for learning and growth both

I doubt about low levelling as Oracle IC2 is in same band of Google L3. Their IC3 is equivalent to Google L4.

I got L3 when my current base was 40L+ and they were offering TC of 40-42ish including bonuses.

They took almost 1yr (first interview in Nov, offer in July) to process the application. Made no sense. I had 3yoe by then as well.

Didn't take it.

I’m in the similar situation, I got L3 offered which I can’t consider because its not that competitive. I’m having 3.5 YOE and still they aren’t budging from L3 to L4.

For me, money is a priority than a brand name. You should understand and figure out what your priority is.

If they aren’t budging on the fixed component, ask them for more stock option. They have a scope in the stocks component usually. Thats what I tried.

Google lowballing

Heard from someone that Google is extensively lowballing new hires, providing way lesser average base pay and stock grant as compared to 2023/2022. They are taking advantage of a bad job market. Is the brand name still worth it?
